I can strip a belt in a few hours with my mine team.. and even with 100 ships I couldnt pop a ice belt for months..
I was wondering if this was intended?
And then i would ask if we could possibly have ice belts be depeletable like asteroids.
thanks!

my question to you is, why would you want ice fields to be depletable?

to make the dozens of ice macroers in Jita go away?
or they could just move the ice into 0.8 and below where you can't run a completely automated macro 23/7

Ice belts depletable?!
What next, do you want killmails for the roids?
Ice belts are few and far between, could you imagine the grief you could cause to an enemies pos if you could simply mine the ice (fuel) away ?

What exactly wrong with it ? Enemy will always be able to pwn your mining op anyway ans\or buy ice products on open market.

You haven't trained for the new capital class strip miner? I deplete ice fields in like two cycles.

what would be the problem with being able to deplete an ice belt. I mean really. Atm they are perminent fixtures in space.. no one can mine 100k Ice.. not even macro miners. So what would be the real harm in having people need to spread out in search of ice instead of sitting in Jita or other Key hubs and Ice mining till they drop.. and or get cought macroing.
Just food for thought.

I mean in actuallity. how much coding would it require to Put a smaller number on the ammount of ice in each block?.. =) Could be a simple change and might possibly Curb macro miners in high sec feeding off the endless ice.

Sounds like a good way to introduce some more strategy...

Of course, there are many many more roid belts than there are ice belts. Roids are spread out but numerous, ice is concentrated, but big.
Originally by: Naverin I was wondering if this was intended?
The concentration of ice into few belts was certainly intended - probably as a plan to make the ice belts a strategic location.

The technical aspect of the change would be a simple one, the question is whether it's desirable from a game design viewpoint. If ice belts were made as easy to pop as roid belts, you'd need to add many more belts to avoid an ice shortage.

sad thing is i want to get into serious mining and thanks to macro-miners i hear ice is near worthless as the market is "Walmarted" with cheap sweatshop ice.

Unfortunately, as ceo of a mining corp., I can confirm its not just ice that is happening with.
** So, I like mining, whats the big deal? ** |

Ore pops easily .. but there is a ton of it everywhere.. Ice macro'ing is very easy because the ice you mined last week or last month is in the exact same spot unyielding to the might of 100 Ice barges...
I would approve of ice being reduced dramaticly in size..

So any other thoughts on this subject. Maybe ice mining corps? What is your experience as to the ammount of ice you pull in etc etc.. Would having ice belts be depletable hurt your Ability to make income mining?.
*Devs*
are you looking into this area of the game? or just leaving it alone?
