I was thinking, I do not like the idea of a battle where someone is called primary and then all ships target that ship and boom it is over. It doesn't seem to be all that fun for people.
What if targeting is changed.
A frigate can only be targeted by one ship. A cruiser can only be targeted by three ships. A battleship can only be targeted by 5 ships. et cetera
Would that make battles more interesting for you?
It seems it would make the individual even more important in a battle. Fun would be added as fights would last longer.

Huehue, i have no idea how this could be abused, lock your own gang and be immune to everything but smartbombs. Seems balanced to me. My Condor costs less than that module! |

Good point. That does put a kink in it doesn't it. However, a way to get around that would be to separate friendly targeting from enemy targeting perhaps. I write Kindle books. Visit my author page. http://amazon.com/author/sgbynum |

Say Im an underground operative in a fleet and decide it's time to go wild... How would the game know if Im supposed to be friendly or not if I am blue, in same fleet, possibly in same corporation and still supposed to shoot ?
And I know you arent suggesting that limit would apply only to hostiles while friendlies have unlimited locks, becose one shot (DDD) would be only way to kill anything after that. |

Very good idea, but extremely difficult to balance. You would see alot more spider tank fleets |

Sure, and then we could force everyone in Eve to join one of two NPC factions so the game always knows who is friendly and who is an enemy. |

Everyone in gang activates a small smartbomb to aggress each other Everyone in gang is now classified as an enemy to each other.
These artificial mechanisms tend to be readily exploitable.
The answer that you're looking for is probably some form of line-of-sight shooting, with ships requiring a clear shot. But if this was implemented then the servers would probably do something like this. |

I would never suggest someone be given an advantage over the other. Friendly ships would be treated the same.
Perhaps, everyone is considered "friendly" until they activate an offensive weapon on the target.
Example in your case:
You have a fleet member targeted as a friendly, taking up one of the friendly targeting slots. Once you activate an offensive weapon/module on the target, you become an enemy, then you are taking up one of the enemy targeting slots. I write Kindle books. Sounds solid to me, let me just grab my scorpion and lock up my friends and put a cruise missile into each one so they cant be locked by the enemy fleet. Lowering the average to make you look better since 2012. |

If I remember correctly, corp members can shoot each other now without becoming flashie red, so, I do not understand your logic. So, how would you shooting your corp members stop the enemy targeting? it would not. I write Kindle books. Visit my author page. http://amazon.com/author/sgbynum |

He doesnt have to be in same corp. He doesnt even need to be in same fleet. Hint: concord doesnt work outside highsec. |

Yes. Just make it so there are no limits to targeting but instead make it so that every new lock makes it harder to lock that target. Essentially, if theres a lock onto a frigate by a frigate, every additional lock should take more time on an exponential curve. Could that be exploited? Certainly but it would be much harder and much less effective. |
