I take care of few animals. 2 cats, 3 turtles, and 3 parakeets.
A eurasian collared dove happen to fly by and is really tame. So I assumed it flew off from its owner somewhere or maybe the owner release it, I don't know. I spent 2 weeks looking for its owner, but decided to take care of it after the 2 weeks.
Researched the net for proper feeding and care. And I still got some questions I would like to know and looking for someone that is really familiar with doves, especially with eurasian collared doves (little information). |

Guard: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

My wife fosters various pigeon breeds, which I believe are quite similar to doves in most respects. We're around them everyday, so we will do our best to answer any questions.

I remember it because of research into Kodak, why they went bankrupt. Half surprised Nokia or Google didn't make a takeover bid tbqh...

In addition to a stick to perch on, doves like to have a flat place to walk around on. For example, a shelf or a board in the cage. All birds like to be housed at at least human eye-level or higher. Having a creature approach them from above makes them nervous. Birds are very aware of voices and sounds and vocalize a lot. When entering the room with the bird or approaching its cage, it's best to say, sing or whistle something first. It helps the bird relax and know your peaceful intentions. Doves actually are pretty gentle. If you need to doctor the bird or hold it for some reason, it will probably won't freak out too much. Hold it gently but firmly around the wings and body and talk to it. It will get used to it in a few seconds. Birds have fast metabolisms and need lots of water. But they tend to turn over any water container that's not fixed to the cage. A stone or something heavy in the water dish will help keep it from turning over (so that the bird has a steady water supply). |

Oh, doves have a preference on flat surfaces? The dove is very tame and used to people when I first brought it in. its not often a dove could relax on its back as shown here!
Beside from a cage (reasonable space), got 2 perch stand like this one for my room and my sister's and dove actually flies between the rooms on the perch stand and likes to relax on it (don't mind the reddish part on its chest, its bit of paint). And after several days of owning it, it has a surprising result that the dove mainly poops there so less poop to clean, especially on the shoulders :)

Figure on 2-3 doves per person for a light lunch or an appetizer, or 3-5 for a main course... For 4 people, you would need:
12 doves Kosher salt 3 tablespoons olive oil 12 bay leaves 12 sage leaves Spanish smoked paprika Freshly ground black pepper About 1/4 cup melted bacon fat...
... Oh... you weren't looking for that kinda help. Sorry! GÇ£Go then, there are other worlds than these.GÇ¥ "First comes smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire." - Roland Deschain, of Gilead. - The Gunslinger |
