Is anyone else having trouble with the drone targetting in RMR? Seems like once your drones has destroyed its appointed target, they then choose the furthest out ship as their next target. This normally results in aggro-ing all the rats in a given mission. My poor domi is getting zerged.
This might be a sorting bug in the code.

they randomly attack anyhting thats attcking you.
if you want to use drones, you have to keep a tight reign on them,so you should have their next target allrdy highlighted and rdy to click for when they done the first
-I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.-

The AI is really driving me nuts... In addition to what you speak of in referance to targeting they also agro on deadspace structures like cans both in and out of combat. Its very irritating to have them fly off 90 miles away to attack a can when you have 4 targets locked.

I have had many problems with drones randomly attacking targets if not commanded otherwise. As well, I've had problems with drones slowboating to new targets at very low speeds, and I've even had a drone that was going 10m/s when trying to return to my ship.
The bugs with the speed of the drones doesn't concern me as much as the fact that my drones SHOULD stay idle after destroying a target, instead of randomly attacking new targets (that I haven't even targeted yet).

IŠve never had any trouble with drones aggroing things that I donŠt want them to during missions.
When the last of the hostile enemy is destroyed i just quickly tell them to return to my dronebay and deploy them again when the next group of mobs is aggored and shooting at me.

The AI SUCKS period. Micro managing them is not fun at all and can result in loss of a ship as they tend to agro needly. One easy change would have them only attack what you have targeted.
I love the game but CCP has not done a great job in this area.

Hehe
Using drone based ships has always required a higher level of micro-management than using other ships. Even more so if your also trying to maintain a tank.
If its becoming to much hassle having to be ready to click every few seconds, I'd suggest moving to a megathron and just use drones as a supplimentary weapon system. Both worked well for me, but I prefered the megathron simply because it could hold a dual large rep tank, while firing so there was vertually no micro-management whereas a dominix had a real problem with it.
There used to be a bug where Drones attacked Everything in sight. CCP had a go at fixing it, then there was the bug where they'd just destroy the target, then return. Considering the first atleast allowed them to be more useful I guess CCP had another go and it defaulted back to that... Which one did you prefer? (or did you find both equally annoying ) ___________

Being in a gang is a workaround to this. Unfortunately since RMR you can't gang offline characters anymore so you have to gang someone else, it doesn't matter where he is, to get the drones to stop attacking everything in sight. And, yes, this is annoying especially with the new drone range modules.

I think my preference would be that drones should only attack targets that I have aquired a lock.
I've been using drones for one and a half years, and they were never this bad. I'm getting total aggro in most level 3+4 missions.
Other than that, domi rocks, don't want a mega. Currently I'm running two large armour reppers and three hardeners.

I have 1 Ogre I in my barge, and since the patch, I've noticed some quirky behavior.
My drone can only hit targets if the targets aren't trying to shoot the drone. If 3 NPC rats show up, and all 3 are shooting me, my drone will tear through them. But, if any of the rats are shooting at the drone, the drone will never score damage on any of the rats.
After my drone kills a rat, it'll engage another rat, but will never hit. If I order the drone to return and orbit, then tell it to engage target, it'll tear through the rat again.

drones sound alot like pets in Everquest. unless you monitor them the entire time you have it out it will go off and do something stupid most likely killing you.

I don't think anyone's disagreeing, but I've noticed much poorer drone AI post RMR.
They engage other spawns as a matter of priority. I think the spawn aggro radius has also gone up, or at least, that's my impression based on a fairly small sample set.
Top and bottom is, I'm enjoying missions a lot less due to the constant micro-management of my little band of nomads.
CCP, you should look at this - causing us Domi drivers real problems.

Responding to say I have noticed the same thing. My drones are now often going after the farthest object they can after killing the initial target.
In addition, I am still having trouble with drones getting stuck on each other or just moving very slowly back to the drone bay for no reason. With RMR this is extremely aggrevating, becuase instead of 2 of 15 stuck, I now only have 3 operational drones, reducing my dps substantially.
With such big changes to drones in RMR I am amazed these problems still exist. Please CCP do SOMETHING.

I think pre-RMR the drones, after their initial target was beaten down, would fly upwards of 60km away to attack buildings. This when you were being attacked by NPCs that were within a few km of the drones.
Having the drones now randomaly attacking NPCs is probably a step in the right direction, but the drone control interface could be improved. Perhaps with optional Target Priority list options, and other neat nice-to-have features.
In the meantime, you still have to 'return to ship and orbit' the drones after each target. So the net effect on drone management for the player post-RMR is something close to nil.

Edited by: hootee on 24/12/2005 15:32:33 Edited by: hootee on 24/12/2005 15:31:01 I agree, that CCP should have another look at the use of drones in missions. I cant tell you exactly what is wrong. But from reading this thread, it seems I am not alone.
Just having the drones out attacking THEIR first and only rat in a mission. That is enough for all the OTHER nearby drones to aggro on you. Before their (first and only) rat is destroyed.
