I've been shield tanking successfully with a raven for a few months.. but am looking to try armour tanking for awhile. What are the advantages and disadvatages? Normally I run l3 and l4 missions in empire. I know that armour reps are low slots and that would open up my meds for webs, painters, etc. Is there a huge cost difference? I've heard that there are a lot of successful armour tanking raven pilots, but 90% of the posts ive seen on raven builds are all shield based. Thanks for your input.

Raven is traditionaly fitted for shield tank. It has more med slots than low slots, so i think it's easier and more effective to shield tank this ship.
I also think that 14-15K shield HP with quite decent resistances is enough for everyone :-) Of course in certain situations it's quite handy to armor tank. It has better base resistances on Thermal and EM. So when soloing EM-damage dealing NPCs it's great.

For PvP armor tanking and ECM is a pretty evil combintaion .... Large rep, EXP and KIN hardeners, 2 relays, then 6 jammers of your choice :)

Depends on where your skills are. I have a friend who runs midslots full of cap rechargers (and one web), 2x large reps and 3x faction hardners. Pretty sick setup, IMHO.
(That's an NPC'ing setup, btw)

You don't need low slots for anything except 1) reps 2) hardners -- most people only use 4-5 reps and hardners combined. The rest of the slots are for cap rechargers -- which, you can just use midslots for.
Same difference.

Edited by: Laughlyn Vaughns on 23/12/2005 01:07:39 i often had thoughts abotu an armor tank raven too but wasnt sure how it'd work, most my skilsl and implants are geared towards Armor tanking so it wud be nice to see an effective setup.
Edit: Just checked out the Ravens slot configs. It has 5 loslots which u could easily squeex a Large Rep II 3 Dark Blood or True Sansha Hardeners/Energized Plates and a 1600mm Rolled Tungsten in and it wud give u a reasonable defense. With 6 Mids to play around with u could have an effective E/W fitting in there as well. Might be worth playing around with it with corp mates firing on u to see what u can pull off

i prefer (for 5 slots) : 1 large repair, 1 med repair, 3 hardeners
