Well i heard of certain advantages / disadvantages of the EO races (e.g. Caldari shall be pretty good with rockets) but can't find a single word about that in the eve-guide ...
Can someone please tell where i can find a thread / list with the advantages / disadvantages of the EO races please?

basicly there is neither an advantage nor disadvantage with your character being of a certain race.
the difference is in the ships.
caldair are mostly (not exclusively) missile oriented and have the most med slots making them pretty good in EW(electronis warfare) too but due to their lack of low slots they can only shield tank efficiently.
gallenteuse hybrid turrets and drones for damage. afaik med and low slots are pretty much average but from what i have seen most ships are armor tanked (the megathron at least). they are also a viable choice for a little EW. they also got the iteron Mk.V THE hauler.
minmataruse projectiles and missiles, their ships have high base speed and also lots of med slots. although they have neither enough med nor low slots to use amor or shield tank to really excessive levels their ability to deal all 4 dmg types with their ammos and the insane single volley dmg output make them a good choice for a fighter character.
amarruse energy weapons that only do EM and thermal dmg but don't need to reload as the crystals are not used up while firing and deal massive damage at low to medium range. amarr has mostly high and low slots so you will find a combination of great armor tank capabilities with decent damage output. the amarr ships are the slowest around i think but they get massive armor hitpoints and also the biggest capacitor (guns need high amounts of cap though).
so whatever your choice at character selection is rest assured you can train any skill and even fly multiple classes of ships. the tech 1 ships' skills are available on the market and grouped according to race. you can have all 4 races ship skills and switch as you please. _________________________________ just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean i'm not following!

Caldari: Pro's: Raven can't be killed solo'd also good ew/shield tank Con's: There are none, use ew on caldari and their just use fof, defenders and smartbombs are crap against them. They have a whole low rack they could dedicate to stabs whilst being able to put up a decent tank in the mids
Gallente:
Pro's: With the new skills/mods and drone buff the Dominix is going to be a close second good for anything. Drones being tougher smartbombs wont be able to single volley them.
Con's: Theres not many the celestis has been put on the shelf but the rest of the ships seem to be very good in their specialty
Amarr: Pro's: Benefit from armor and new drone skills and might be getting explosive crystals making minmatar even less worth specialising in.
Con's: Omen and augoror dont look that great and their interceptors aint that great, better than are's
Minmatar: May as well train for other race ships as you can be just as good in them with half the sp needed, although a race this nerfed could be seeing a buff soon

Also, to some people, the ships looks can be a deciding factor, so here goes:
Caldari: Tech-like and lots of hard edges and extra attachments to ships. They are usually not symmetrical. They don't really care for smoothness and the looks for ships, but the focus on efficiency and high tech makes them look decent anyway.
Gallente: Big ships, round edges and the most symmetrical of ships (maybe tied with amarr). They are smooth and look intimidating. They usually have a big cilinder/sphere-like body.
Minmatar: Most ships look like they come from scrapheap challenge, fitting all the usefull things together. The most 'ragtag' and down to earth look. No extra flair, if it shoots well and it flies well, the ship is good.
Amarr: Like Gallente, looks are moderately important, most ships symmetrical. Some of the bigger ships (as far as I see) have a 'pretty side' and a 'less pretty' side. The 'front' and 'top' of ships can be armored and looks sleek, the bottom is more open and shows more basic things and sometimes looks less armored.
Check http://www.eve-files.com/media/12/eve_chart-rmr.jpg for a look at the ships (although the fighters are really small, you should have some indication)
