I'm new to the game, but I'd like to align myself with groups like the 'Minmatar Freedom Fighters'. My question is how do I find these groups that work against the slave trade, liberate slaves, slaughter slavers?
Are there specific groups or lines of missions that I need to get into?

If you contact anyone from the Ushra'Khan alliance (particularly the Matsuaata Matari and Freelance Unincorporated corps), they'll put you on the right path.

Terrorism is the attacking of soft targets of little strategic importance to 'send a message' and spread fear through the opposing political or (generally) theological stance.
Generally terrorism targets non-military assets, such being civilians in places of mass congregation like markets, worship centers, schools, rather than risking a more direct confrontation with armed targets. The intent is to foment fear, little more.
The freedom fighters as a rule target 3 things:
Pilots allied and working with those who support slavery.
Transport convoys moving slaves.
Anyone that attacks them.
Are there pirates among the Matari? Most certainly! Just as there are among the other races capable of piloting spacecraft. Attacking a slave convoy does not constitute terrorism... releasing a dozen canisters of Vitoc into the atmosphere of a planet does.

Not to pick nits or anything, but terrorism is generally a high-profile, limited-real-impact attack. Generally, not too many people die in acts of terrorism.
No, I'm pretty sure that releasing a dozen canisters of Vitoc into an atmosphere constitutes a war crime.
