Ok now I'm no guru on his stuff but after reading all the mem leak post I thought I would check how mine is doing. this is what I found, after 3 hrs of play Eve was using 550 meg on my machine. Ok now I close Eve and relog, starts out at about 150-160 megs and slowly climbs(after 1 hr up to 260 meg) ,Mind this I havent done anything ingame, this is just sitting at station docked. So I'm thinkin wtf I havent even opened a window how can it keep climbing. Then I notice the only thing open is the chat,it had the default Rookie help/local/corp channels open. So I try to close them, Rookie chat first....baaaam Intantly I get over 30 megs back,so I try to close the other 2 but find out I cant. Ok now I restart Eve, soon as I get in I close Rook Chat and play for over 4 hrs.My ram count for eve stayed between 170-250 megs for that entire time of actually play..not just sitting in station.
If your having a mem problem try shutting down whatever chat ya can and see what happens.Post your own results here for comparison.
Also maybe a dev should take a look into the chat system, this could explain why some peeps are having leaks and others not, depending on what chat channels they use.

Ok I kept playing till server shut down and had a peak mem usage of 286meg and was sitting in station 1 min before shutdown at 253 megs. Overall an increase of about 30 megs on average since my first post here, but that may have todo will increased players over that time. Bottom line with only Local/Corp chat open I never came close to the 500+ meg ram usage i was getting before. BTW I have the .ini file setting at 512 megs for buffer for eve.Have a total of 2gig ram on my system. Still get the lil lag spikes but they seem more like less than a sec as opposed to the 2-3 sec ones I had before but these may have nothing to do with each other, also may have just been my imagination lol...wishfull thinking and all ...

I never have more than my local and corps channels open. Sometimes a private channal. I have always been able to run the game for two to three hours since RMR without it killing my machine. And with only a 1.3 ghz duron and 256 ram, I have FAR less power than many people who can only run for around half an hour.
The chat is possibly the issue, though I wouldn't bank on it. Still, it is a very interesting possibility and I hope that CCP looks into it.
It IS after all the one thing in the game that continually gets bigger the longer you are in game. Just like the memory usage increased throughout the game time.

I assure you that CCP is looking into the memory leak issue. As a programmer I know that is the second most important part of releasing a program.
#1 that it runs without crashing #2 that it continues to run (leakage)
while sitting in the station I leak 8k every clock cycle, which is a 64 bit pointer..... Sooooo something tells me that there is an unintended side effect of swapping to a 64 bit server.
Perhaps the clients version of the Struct pointer that relays game info to and from the server isn't being deleted as one would expect?
Just my 2 isk... Send me the source and i'll find it <laughs>
