At this point we all know that EVE has changed so much that if set side by side to the origional game (barring Graphics) all they would have in common is base concepts.
But this isn't a post about how EVE is being changed, well yes it is. We all know there have been numerous screw-ups by CCP, but practically every company hits those roadbloacks, especially MMO game companies. Unfortunately for us (the players) those mistakes led to exploits, cheats, scams, and other such devices that allowed other players to speed ahead of us. Now don't get me wrong, i'm perfectly fine where i am in this game, this isn't a rant from some dude who just got nailed by m0o. But the question i am driving at here is.....
What do you think would happen if CCP did a Player Wipe?
This was common enough in beta, as we beta testers know. And yes we were all ****ed off from loosing our guys. So everyone getting ****ed at CCP is understandable, thats a given so don't flame me about it plz. All i want to do is see what people think about this. I mean EVERY person who posts here knows a hell of a lot more NOW then they did when creating their character. We know what works, what doesn't, whats useless (IE Charisma), and what isn't. We know the Market is functioning... mostly. But it's a complete hell for developers. The new copy scheme might help, but the old cpoies have been grandfathered. Asteroids have been changed, no more ninja mining in Oicx for us. And so have alot of things.
What i ask is that do YOU think if CCP did a player wipe would we be better for it? would we be worse? Why?
------Plz no flaming other then the obligatory "HELL NO". I just would like thoughts on it-------------

I will never understand why people put "no flaming" on their posts. As if other posts, by default, invite flaming. As if a troll would be put off by that "Awhhh shucks, says no flaming, better move on".
Player wipe? Disasterous.
Not to mention that I dont think this game is *THAT* out of balance atm.

I don't think that is possible. Neocron was kind of forced into a player wipe after retail due to a bug which allowed for game currency to be duplicated. Unless the same thing has happened in EVE, there would have to be a MAJOR reason for an entire player wipe. You are talking about 4 months of work, gone.

Nope never will happen. Too many people have too much tied up in the game.
I have never been close to M0o or do I plan on getting close to them or any other pirate areas.
And I am not the only one like this. Of all the people that play these games, only 25-30% read these boards. The rest are playing the game and enjoying it.
And to do a player wipe would just be the death of Eve. Period....
So no it will never happen...

I think that would drive back massive amounts of players away for sure.
Besides CCP is bound to make several mistakes again, like dumping all blueprints on the market and such. --- soonÖ |

I was in beta to and I agree that certain things are unbalanced at this point. Even if a character wipe was to happen a couple months down the road I am sure we would find ourselves in a similiar position. I actually decided to do a character wipe myself because I did not like how I had set up the original one. It has taken me a month to get back to were I want to be but I am glad I did it...

Actually, it was an item and money wipe.
This was to put the Germans, who had a two, maybe three, month head-start on everyone else, on a fairly level playing field.
Of course it was no problem for them to recover.

true true.
But if we are looking at EVE in terms of "work" then the whole purpose of a Game is defeated. I play to have fun. I'd have fun starting over again to be honest.
And we would all have 4 months of experiance in our heads this time around. Would be interesting to see what would happen.

A playerwipe would be nice if there was a way to get back 4 months of work.
In most MMOG's you can powerlevel your way back to lvl XX in no time.
In EvE you can't.

I'd gladly accept a player wipe IF we were allowed to choose our starting attributes again and get to "spend" our current skill point total on skills again.

wipe=ludicrous Is the real world "balanced"?
There are no disatrous exploits / cheats (that i know of), so its madness to talk of it..... Jim'll Fix it For You. ( and you and you!)

A playerwipe would be an double edged sword, I personally think it would be the death of eve, for I have asked my corp and over 30 people in it have said they would stop playing the game altogether if this happened. I would also be tempted but then again I would want the chance to work back what I lost. But remember this will be harder without being able to mine Ark or bistot, as for spodumain well it dont exist anymore it seams.
The only way this could possably work is if they offered some kind of accelerated training program that allowed people to get their skills back at a fraction of the time it took to train them originally. "Death Before Dishonor" |

Note: I don't think a player-wipe is a GOOD idea.
We're just being theoretical, right?
Guys?
Right?
