I wanna change my name to this, is it possible if the dude that never gets on this name deletes his, is there any possible way I can change my name from TAnk CEO to this with alittle help from CCP? Haven't they changed other peoples names?

I think it's very unlikely you can be named to that name since there is already someone named that way (something you should have checked in advance).
Ofcourse it's possible that char has only just been made because of this post, but that would be quite your own fault I guess.
Suggest you just send a petition about this.

I don't see a problem with name changes, as long as they are not in use (obvious) and that your char notes display your old name for some time.

Well, if "Tank" is in use they can still change it to "Tank salaryman" or "Tank employee"

Lag Exploiter? LOL, dont get me mixed up with Moo. I like the name Tank, I had the original in Beta 6, then lost it in Beta 7 because some 1 took it to teach me a lesson he says. Now the guy who has "Tank" never uses it, at all. I bet it was another guy trying to teach me a lesson because I pod killed him or something. O well. =/ Im spoiled, it took me like 30 minutes to settle with this name heh, was the only way to keep "Tank".

Even if they quit today I hear the accounts are kept for a further six months... So I doubt you will get it back Tank...

The only way the name would be freed up is if the character was deleted by the account holder.

That's correct. Because name changes are done manually and only during server downtime, we don't do them unless we absolutely have to (because the name is offensive, for example.) You can try an alternate spelling - maybe alternate upper and lower case.

My name is offensive to me, my corp, and everyone I meet... i mean really, wtf wants to see a Caldari running around in body armor on top and..... a tight little red Speedo below. It's disgusting, even with my uber buff physique.

Problem with name changing as I see it is that it could help bypass the (fairly) useful threat indicator settings. As often as I can be bothered, I'll update my standings with the top 20 odd pirates setting it to 'terrible' so that I get a little extra warning if one of them is about- would a name change stop this working?
Maybe we need (or even have?) a unique ID number that things are based on regardless of the name displayed?
