CCP initially raised prices on factories to try to combat Slot hording. Now that they have fixed the rent cycles, I think it would be a good idea to reduce the rent again.
...and fix Corp slots too!

Yes, the high rent is the result of a "fix" that is no longer needed. They used to be far too cheap, now they are too expensive. The rent should be about 1/4 to 1/2 of what it is now.

actually i think the rent on factories is correct. it's a market situration where local production and market forces effect the price of production.
As it currently stands it works very well.

I think it mainly depends where u decide to rent. Stations with a tendency toward science will charge less for their labs, whereas some stations with a more production based motive will charge less for their factories. ------------------------------------------- *The trouble with morning is that it comes at an ungodly hour* *Any man can stand adversity; if you want to test a man's character, give him power* *Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups* *The only really dumb questions are the ones you do not have the courage to ask* *Do not look to where you fell but where you slipped* *All religions issue Bibles against Satan, and say the most injurious things against him, but we never hear his side* (Mark Twain) *Church history is always written to justify the survivors* *Great people believe in themselves; small people want others to believe in them* *It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog* *Soldiers fight, but kings become heroes* *Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent* *True strengh lies in having to courage to do the right thing* *The future is unlimited as long as man cares for mankind* |

I think having a common rent price of about 25K is too high - it makes manufacturing your own equipment completely pointless for the most part, as that cost is much greater than any potential saving on the cost of the equipment. It's then only useful for people who are building ships or large quantities to resell.

AEnikata, and thats the way it should be. If producing your own stuff was not only more conventient, but would also save you significant amounts of money, the market would be in an even worse condition than it is.

Edited by: Gary Forthy on 16/09/2003 01:21:10 I think the rent should be higher! Its not cheap to make things, and if everyone made their own stuff it would be of no point in trying to sell stuff!

Not everyone will want to do research or manufacturing. Even if they can make it cheaper for themselves, the gain may not outwiegh the cost of TIME.

When you compare the cost of even the most expensive slot to the cost of the materials used for good production it is quite insignificant. Of course this would apply to the manufacturing individual who plans to use the slot for more than a few hours.
I think the cost is fine where it is, in fact it could be raised a bit. The increase would kill off a few more casual builders making the builder profession more selective. On the down side, it would also make it harder for a new player to get into the construction market.

I agree that factory costs are fine, and should perhaps even be higher.
If you are using a factory to capacity, the rent is not very significant. If you are renting a slot to build a little ammo for yourself and want it to be cheap, i think your missing the point. manufacturing should have some sort of setup/tooling cost, and this is the closest eve comes to that. As mentioned previously, the manufacturing market is already in bad enough shape.
One possibility is to extend the range of factory rental prices more, so that factories in yulai and capitols are more expensive, 100-200k or more. put cheaper factories in backwaters for ammo manufacturing.
I'd like to see prime office locations boosted in price too. Right now office space is so cheap that corps gobble up every office they can. It'd be better if they had to consider the cost more.

It6 only seems so if your producing small amounts. For mass production of nearly any item over the 3 day rent period the rent cost itself is tiny compare to the profits to be made from sales. If your only producing for yourself then its better to set up a deal with a manufacuring based corp or player, or take advantage of the competition on the market and buy the stuff while its cheap.

Factory rents were nice idea.
It was suppose to represent market demand and supply for factory slots.
In reality i just looked in 2 systems deep in empire space and here is what i have found . System 1 is 0.7 with 4 stations and other one 0.6 with 3 stations.
All of stations have factory slots.
Of those factory slots only 2 were rented at 1 station (all of those other slots were unrented and available).
But price for rent was in 70-80k range.
Then i move to 0.0 system outside empire and pay hefty price to reseller of factory slots to be able to rent one from NPC.
And guess what? Price is only 8k.
Makes you wonder about demand and supply thingy.

Edited by: JPFAmarr on 01/10/2003 00:22:05 In general I think they are okay as is. They seem expensive when we need to rent them to build some ammo but cheap when we use them to build battleships. :-)
What do people think about changing factory slots to rent per job vs. currently for a fixed duration? Also, the per job cost should somehow be tied to the "cost" of the item being built? For example, if I build a battleship the cost would be higher than if I build 100 rounds of ammo.

I am still very knew to the game, but after reading the topic, I understand the problem. I have been working on my own small business and have seen in real life what should be happening here. I agree with players about rent in offices that are in secured systems above 5, it should be more. Being that offices in more secured systems are mostly where headquarters factories, and research facilities are placed. Because of increase security patrols protecting commerce and basic travel in the system. Lower level protected systems, are more lawless in the regard of piracy. Where refineries, outpost, and small business start. Exploration of undeveloped systems to mine for resources and to rise in power of new corporation. It would also allow the hording of office space from happening. After all, even in live business rise in fall over times. So, you would have to sale space in order to see a profit.
