Edited by: Heavenly Explorer on 27/12/2005 02:19:44 Solution to 'OMG WTH DRONES AGGRO'D EVERYTHING' in deadspace missions.
1. Make an alt on a second account OR have a friend's around, or a corp mate. 2. Start a mission with your real character. 3. Log on the alt (or friend/corp mate) and gang them. 4. Warp good character into the deadspace. 5. Warp alt into the deadspace. 6. Drone AI will now:
i.) Require you to manually tell the drones to attack a target. ii.) Have the drones return to your ship and orbit if the target is destroyed. iii.) Have the drones start to attack a target if you active a hostile module on the enemy - for example - you shoot it - the drones will attack that target automatically.
*Note* Deploying drones AFTER you've engaged a target will require you to manually tell the drones to attack (or activate a second hostile module on the enemy).
This works any-time not just when inside a deadspace by the way.

Totally agreed... good tip there. It has always been like this ever since I started playing 6 months ago...

Why would having an alt ganged change anything at all? O_o This is a crazy workaround if it works. I'll bet the bughunters would enjoy you bugreporting drone AI and including that info.

If someone could confirm this, afaik the AI of drones was changed in gangs because of a problem with them going aggro on your own gangmates. I think it's related to the use of support modules; ex: energy transfers, remote reps, etc.
But regardless, I'm sorry H/E but I have to say it's totally ridiculous that you should have to have a 2nd account just to get your drones to behave themselves. As far as ganging with others is concerned, I don't mind helping out in a friends missions, but I don't do that for the isk. I do it for a little fun/change of pace and, well, as stated: to help out. I generally solo lvl4's for isk and have to watch my drones like a hawk. I make sure to be right there to switch them to another rat ASAP when their 'former' target explodes. Otherwise, as everyone knows, (unless ganged ) they go their own way towards aggo'ing everything they can.
One time, during a bad lagout during which everything froze on me, by the time my screen returned to normal my drones had aggro'ed every remaining rat on the 2nd stage of lvl4 Vengeance. Evidently, during my freeze up, they had time to kill the npc I had them on, and pay a social call to the rest of said rat community. Half my drones were dead, and things were, lets just say, "touch and go" from there. I survived and didn't have to warp out thankfully (wouldn't of mattered as I was scrambled).
A simple solution to this problem has been posted in another thread under same "Missions" topic called "The downward evolution of agent missions" by Istvaan Shogaatsu:
Originally by: Istvaan Shogaatsu Combat Drones in L4 missions: Drone behaviour is simply retarded. I've suggested this a dozen times before and it's fallen on deaf ears so let's hope the thirteenth time's the charm: We need an "engage and return" command to counteract retarded drone AI. Assign them to attack a target, and once it's blown up, the drones automatically return to you, instead of picking a fight you can't win with a goddamn enemy fleet. If this is too complicated, have NPCs react to drone aggression and drone aggression only - not have them open fire on the drone mothership when they're recalled. This way NPCs still fight back against drones, but don't get stirred into a frenzy by their random attacks.

It's a crazy game, incase you didn't notice :P

You say it like I've done something wrong. They surely would know about this anyway.

Throbb I never said it wasn't rediculous. It's rediculous but it works.

all you have to do is gang a friend or anyone else you can find, then kick them out of the gang, you will still be in your own gang by your self and drones will behave them selfs

I know. I didn't mean to sound flamatory. This was an old time change to drone AI that was made back around when I 1st started.

Interesting option. I had not thought about that one before. I'll give it a try to see how it works. Still it's FUBAR to have to do a work around in such a fashion.

Would it work if you make a 'empty' gang? (aka invite random guy, he refuses, so you have a 1 person gang)

Yes, it works. As long as you have a gang chat window, the drones will behave correctly as stated in the OP's post. Pre-RMR, i think you could even gang with an offline character just to get the gang open, but i don't think that's possible anymore.

Just tried it and I can confirm the invite/kick just to start up '1' man gang works. Thank you Griff.

And how would anyone know or find out? It's lame that such tactics have to be used just to get drones to act properly.

Its always been the case since Cold War or Exodus. In the past you used to be able to invite offline people, but sadly not anymore. --- Order Now!
