No regrets from me. Reasons:
Female pilots provide better scenery while docked than male pilots or a ship. Its different. All men would be boring. Role play options. One pilot is modeled after a character in a different computer game that I enjoyed.
Now: Are there any woman players who have made male pilots? And don't tell me there are no female eve players as there are three (that I know of) in my alliance, one being my sister. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I think this is a strange question.
Male/female in this MMO should not be considered any different then Fairy/Lizard/Robot in other MMO's. You won't get robots in the year 2177 ask humans why the heck we made robot toons when we are not a real robot, so your question makes no sense.
We get the option to create a girl or a boy, so we exercise those options.
If you are asking because you think people might be strange when they pick a sex that is not theirs in real life, then maybe you should question yourself, because this is just a game, and that choice here is meaningless. I suddenly woke up thinking I had a nightmare, then remembered I can't even fly Amarr Battleships. I add bits to this when I'm bored https://www.dropbox.com/s/foijsawsqolarom/EVE_Online.html |

People get all weird when I refer to Ioci in the third party. They get all weird when I point out I'm a guy. I'm not pretending to be a woman. Ioci is a character in a video game. She is a digital personality I created and I've been on adventures in 50+ MMO's with her. She is the gutter punk, red headed step child I never wanted.

Now you see, the concept of bent genders in society or the reasons why gets trivialized often much to the insult, as is the apparent reason to the target, of the GLBT community.
Hence they are made to endure the occasional notion that they read the wrong book, or watched the wrong TV show, or they are into freaky sexual desires, or whatever.
In reality, they are not really the target. When the occasional group, doctor, or whatever makes such assertions, how many overall people in a society are they making angry, insulting, or trivializing?
At most 5 percent.
That's why they are never the target.
The real target is the CIS/Hetero majority for they, not fully paying attention, gets somewhat of an implantation of the notion that their own gender identity is so fragile (hence trivialized) that doing something trivially wrong is going to have them singing Broadway show tunes, decorating the apartment, fabulousing so hard their friends will start looking for fire extinguishers, or seeking surgeries of the nature of "taketh away" or that other surgery known as an "addadictomy".
Hence one more thing to be in fear of, and keeping people nervous about their identities and intentions in any subject or aspect of life is one more link in the chains that bind everybody.
Therefore, in an MMO, rolling an opposite sex avatar is somehow noteworthy or some action that requires explanation or motive, as if it mattered.
When in fact it's equally trivial as the presumptions of the cause of diversion/deviance, the assertions intended to make people scared in the first place.
tl;dr: it does not matter. |

Dear me, not this thread again.
I tend to assume that this thread is only brought up by those who are too young, i.e. under the age of 13 to actually be allowed to play Eve, and are unsure about the physical differences between boys and girls, let alone being concerned about sexuality as such. This is not a signature. |

I'm a bit confused to why this is a question.
I rarely play humans in RPGs. Most of the times my characters are about half my RL age, but I will occasionally play an older character if available. In games where you can choose ethnicity I often choose something different although I do have an Achura in Eve.
I base gender off the individual game. I feel as though the characters in the Bethesda RPGs are ugly, so I usually choose rugged guys. Femshep in Mass Effect has an amazing voice actor so I usually choose her. For a few fantasy RPGs I tend to go with Dwarven guys and Elven women. The Eve women are so pretty I just had to choose them.
I know I say this every time this thread resurfaces, but like many authors I see my characters more as friends with individual personalities rather than a literal manifestation of myself and like my RL friends they come in various forms. Celeste just happens to be my second oldest character and tends to stay docked and out of trouble so I post from this account. |

Just boils down to how you play the game.
I have friends who enjoy creating a cool entity, separate from them as a player. Other people like like to imagine they are role playing as themselves in a fantasy world.
I'd also say specific to Eve, that I think scammers get more mileage out of pretending to be ladies.

During trial I alternated back and forth between male and female characters, it was mere coincidence that the one I liked most was female. If I remember right I tried Caldari first, then Gallente, then Amarr and finally Minmatar. I chose the Gallente for the background and the fact that I didn't like to tone of the intro missions given to the Caldari character. Minmatar was a close second but I didn't like the looks of their ships at all.
My first alt became female because I chose Achura for the better stat distribution that Achura had then (CHA 2!), and the male Achura all looked totally ridiculous to me. |

The first character I made was male. He was supposed to be me in space. Then I started mining so I wanted a hauler alt (extremely usefull back in the day). Since I already had a male character, that one became female. Additional toons are all female.
I normally only pIay female toons tho - in games such as The Elder Scrolls for example. I'm male 24/7 and comply quite nicely with current society genderroles. So when I play a game I'd like to "escape a bit" and be a female character. Comparable with flying spaceships in a future alternate universe.
Everybody I play with knows I'm a guy. Even if I wouldn't use TS, vent and such, I dont feel the need to actually pretend to be female. I'd be a very agressive lesbian anyway.

My daughter made this toon when she tried Eve Online. She played with it for about a year then tired of it. She had always been trying to get me to play this game so it still had some time on its subscription and I tried it and liked it.
I did, then, make a male toon which I still play. I consider him my 'main'...however I play this toon more often because she is a awesome isk-making machine. My other toon stayed away from these isk-making activites because I didn't want to double up. Therefore, it is Nuela 80% of the time.
If I could do over, Nuela would be male. However, no biggie. |

This question pops up from time to time. Why do people ask this question. Why wouldn't a male make a female character? What about it is a mystery? Why would you even wonder? Bokononist

Again?
Quote:It depends I suppose. I identify with Kytayn. In game, he is me. I have female alts that I do not identify with. They are characters I manage or direct.
I think there are a number of levels people create and use avatars for:
Identity - the character is a representation of you Masquerade - the character is a representation of who you want people to think you are Propriety - They are not me but they are mine. This can range from viewing the character as a pet, a child, a favored pupil, to something more unseemly like ownership of a slave or minion. Convenience - Don't care about the character just didn't want to look at dude/dudette all day
My female characters tend to be a combination of the last two.

My only regret, is that CCP only allows you to make perfect women, and not ones that you see in RL (that often).
CCP, give us more Character Creator options! Yuck
Like the "real wimmin" I see at work?
Fat, gross, dumpy, wearing poorly matched clothing, unkempt unwashed hair, standing in the alley with a smoke hanging from their yap.
Walk past them and smell stale cofffee and cigarettes...When I see them with wedding rings I ask myself:
"Guys yuck yuck yuck"... Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo... |

I do it because it adds to the selling price when you have a hot chick compared to...say...Andski, for instance.
I have never regretted making one.

Ever read any of Ian Bank's Culture novels? In this futuristic society known as "The Culture", gender is meaningless. People don't refer to their sexuality, they simply love whoever they are inclined to love and be whatever they are inclined to be. In this setting people live many multiple hundreds of years. The average lifespan is about three hundred, and most people change genders at least once or twice.
I don't see any reason why it should be considered odd in real life, never-mind in a computer game where the choice ultimately only dictates the body shape of a virtual Avatar (An Avatar which, by the way, is basically pointless without any Avatar gameplay content).
