In the wake of the Kinhar Elokur Incident, where a Minmatar student killed three Gallente citizens in alleged self defence, many Federal citizens are looking at their own personal safety, resulting in higher enrolment in Jin-Mei martial arts classes!
The Jin-Mei homeworlds in the Lirsautton system, have given rise to many forms of martial art, some with weapons, some unarmed, but all featuring a high standard of physical and mental training being required to master the art.
"Any Gallente fool can learn to break iron bars with their fist, but only a Jin-Mei Master can do it poetically", stated one Jin-Mei martial artist.
The graceful moves of Jin-Mei martial artists have found their way into many Federation-produced holo-films, with the character types of "ancient monk" and "dragon lady" featuring in numerous blockbusters, including "The Tei-Su Exploding Fist", in which a young Jin-Mei hero fights his way across several star systems in search of his sister, kidnapped by the Serpentis.
"I saw this film with a former Miss Federation, Charlani Hudsin, I think the name was, and she was using Jin-Mei moves against these giant animals, and she was only wearing barbecue sauce, man. Barbecue Sauce!", said one enthusiastic martial arts student. Saucy!
"My hands are dangerous weapons now! Well, against bits of furniture, I guess. We haven't really covered fighting people yet. This Dimac stuff is awesome", said another student.
"Foreign devils will never understand the Proper Way", said another Jin-Mei master.
A Federal Intelligence Office spokesperson had this to say:
"When times are uncertain, people always worry about their safety. By taking up martial arts, and of course informing the authorities of any foreign or suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood, citizens can help to ensure their safety, and the safety of the Federation as a whole."
Furniture salespeople have also reported an increase in sales, as overly enthusiastic people practice their skills.

I liked the holofilm with the Idama slaughtering through hordes of Caldari with nothing but chopsticks after his honor was insulted, it was really fun to watch with all the cheap special effects and HUYAAA'ing. What was the name, I forgot...

Idama are Intaki. If they made such a basic mistake as having an Idama using Jin-Mei martial arts, I guess the cheap special effects must have eaten into their proof-reading budget.
Come to think of it, what is it with capsuleers and enjoying really cheap, really bad holoflicks?

I had also assumed the ILF to be more culturally and racially sensitive than this.

The more terrible the holoflick is, the better I like it.
I also go to the opera, read poetry, philosophy, history, and try my hand at woodcarving now and again, when i'm not out fishing, of course.
Many cultures have their own martial styles, though. Studied some of the Jin-Mei, Fed marine training is a mix of things. The rest I do on my own.
And besides, Muckraker didn't even mention 'Enter The Clone' that's still the best of the martial arts holoflicks, IMO.

Nothing wrong with more people getting exposure to the martial arts, regardless of how the initial impression is made. If nothing else, practicing the basic motions of a martial art is a soothing mental exercise and a good way to keep your body fit.
Though I will admit I did enjoy some of those movies as a youngster. Especially the ones with that ridiculously fit guy who seemed to rip his shirt off and flex if someone so much as looked at him in the wrong way. |

I always enjoyed that one where some internal Impetus studio bought up the rights for a few no-budget holofilms, then dubbed it over with their own voice acting. I wish I could remember the name of it, but I remember one part where the hero is fought by someone who is clearly bad at fighting, and then his master reveals to the hero that they had intentionally trained him badly just for laughs. |

Although if you're looking to hook up in college, a Jin-Mei martial arts club is a decent spot.
Oh, who am I kidding, if you want to hook up in college, the cafeteria is a decent spot.

I did actually think that for a scholcky summer B-movie it made an interesting philosophical point about the Intaki concept of Rebirth. The whole idea that the Idama learned Jin-Mei martial arts by actually being a Jin-Mei in one of his past lives challenged the long-hend belief that Intaki lived their past lives solely as Intaki, and I thought that was refreshingly high-concept for this sort of movie.
