I'm experiencing the same issue, new subscriber who found his way into EVE via the Penny Arcade trial offer. Very much enjoying the game, except that prolonged running results in serious system slowdown and game lag.
The most recent experience I had of the issue hit me while in a complex. Fighting off 15+ pirates in a Punisher with slide-show frame rates was intense, to say the least. Thankfully I survived, but it then took me an eternity to collect the loot. During this period I had the game come to a complete standstill for periods of 5 minutes plus.
Once I got my ship back to a dock, I alt-tabbed and checked the mem usage to find it running way up over 700mb. And, despite the advice of others, I *do not* find that regular alt-tabbing helps. In fact, I thought my use of alt-tab to do other things whilst travelling was causing the issue (until the most recent experience, when I hadn't been alt-tabbing because I left the game running for a few hours when I had a nap).
Right now, my mem use is up to 350 (from 200ish at client startup) and I've done practically nothing in-game at all, other than sit in dock training skills while reading up on the mem use issue.
Since it seems that not everyone is experiencing the issue, I'll post my system here as well in the hopes it helps. I'm running an Acer Aspire 5024 laptop (version with 1024 ram, mobility x700 gfx and 100gb hdd) with XP Home. Onboard sound has been disabled in favour of an Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card.

More info that I hope will help. Since I posted the above I've had the client running without restart, sometimes playing and sometimes idling. I've alt-tabbed numerous times, and had some long-stints in game running through a couple of complexes.
eve.exe's mem usage is now up to 600mb. Check time stamps for time period in which this occurred.

As i said before i have spoken to ccp about this memory leak..... i have done checks with them on my hardware and software and even my net connection from my computer to there server... nothing wrong with them.... and i got this reply from then..
"There will be hotfixes deployed as much as necessary to get the game stable and without lag or any other problems, this should include any memory leaks there are, hopefully there will be a specific fix for this in the next few days. Untill then I¦m afraid there is not much we can do to resolve this for you."

So the roller coaster frames per second which I never got before RMR is related to this memory leak ?
I sure hope they fix it soon, because it is getting annoying.

Just thought I'd add my 0.02 ISK.
I haven't been playing long, so my install was utterly clean (no legacy files or registry entries). I run WIN2K Pro SP4 (Not XP). I have an AMD64 3200+, 1GB DDR400 (2 x 512MB) and an nVidia 6600GT running nVidia drivers (not from omegadrivers.com) and have DirectX 9c installed.
And I have no problems (yet, fingers crossed).

I may have found a possible work-around. By switching the compatibility mode of Eve to NT, I've yet to see any funny business in RAM or the swap file.
I still need to do more testing, but can anyone confirm?

Edited by: Starfury Shang on 04/01/2006 17:04:42 I am not getting this memory leak at all and I have been playing fullscreen at 1600x1200 for 12hrs a day over christmas.
I am however running Windows XP 64bit, maybe this makes a difference I dont know.
I am running a Athlon64 3200+ CPU same as a guy who posted just up from mine.
