Hi there, I am pretty new to the game and have been generally doing missions for the agents solidly along with a wee bit of mining. I have upgraded my ship to a Merlin and want to be a fighter and have been concentrating my skill training with this in mind.
My question is that i have all these lovely slots to fill with goodies, but find that the main problem is that my powergrid has a max of 40 which quickly gets filled up. I have a 125mm railgun, a 125mm carbide railgun, an M12 standard launcher I, a micro capacitor battery I, a basic co processor and a basic gyrostabiliser. This leaves me with 38/40 in my powergrid.
Can anyone advise me what may be a solution to the problem? How can I upgrade the amount of power and are there other items they recommend I should have and ones I should get rid of?
Also, I am in the UK and would like to finally join a Corp, so if anyone could do with a wannabe fighter (a cruiser is next on my list!) then I need recruiting! It would also be nice to have some people who can tell me more about the game, it's pretty overwhelming at first!
Thanks all
Smilla

Check the market for skills that increase power and cpu efficency.

you have two options to increase it. 1. the engineering skill. it boosts powercore output by 5% per level. 2. you can buy 'power diagnostic systems' or r'reactor control units' they are low slot items, and boost your powercore by 5-10% Ceo Aquitaine Space Conglomerate |

I would suggest looking at engineering and electronics skills, to see which ones will help you.
I would start with getting Engineering and Electronics to level 3 or 4. (make sure you have all you learning skills to speed up training).
Check the boards for info, many players have been at this for months and months and have all sorts of tricks.
There are the low slot power items, (the items who have atoms as icons). Some are more useful than others.
Level 4 Engineering + Merlin should allow you to load most Frigate level equipment. Finding the right balance is as much art as it is science. -

I'm trying to goose up my Rifter, too. Trying to put a 650 mm canon on it, which draws 200units, when I currently have 40.
How much power can you get a rifter up to. Like 45 or so? Trying to put the 650 mm canon on is a waste of time?

Yeah, that is not gonna happen.
I think you need like Engineering 30.

The 650mm will not fit on a rifter. It is medium sized weapon and frigates can only handle small sized.
Frigate - fits small sized weapons Cruiser - fit medium and small sized weapons Battleships - fit large, medium and small weapons.

I've been able to fit medium weapons on a frigate. My Executioner packs a medium dual beam laser in concert with a small gattling pulse.

actually i think the medium pulse laser is a small weapon you have to look for the icon of the gun.
On it it displays a s for small weapon, m for medium and l for large same with ammo and crystals
