OK, I'm no miner. Granted, there's been a couple humiliating moments where I've been seen in a belt with mining lasers, but hopefully none of those moments ever turned into a screenshot.
Thus, I know very little about the overall value of a can.
RMR has given me a new, sec-hit free way to pirate. I fly up to a mining barge/BS in something that could tear through their ship like none other, do a quick transfer from their can to mine (yay for red flashy), and then charge the miner(s) x amount of ISK to be able to take from the can back into their own without having their ships ripped from 'neath their pods. They don't pay, either I wait 15 and haul the ore back in a hauler or I blow up the can. They do pay, I honor it, so that people will keep paying.
So what's a full can worth, in a ransom? Obviously not so much as a ship, and not as much as the total of the ore, otherwise you've no chance of a ransom. It's more something about multiple small ransoms in the time it takes to get one decent sized ransom that seems profitable here. The only way to get a huge payoff, as I see it, is either if a barge tries to forcibly take the ore back or if you basically claim the belt and charge for the right to mine in it.
I just don't know how much to charge for a full can. I'd say only about 2 mil tops for a container full of veldspar, going up from there. ------------------------------------ Join Channel MacroIntel! |

Maybe a general overview of the worth of each can of ore, without peeking per-region? I hate to have to check market prices every time while they get a friend in a BS to come help. ------------------------------------ Join Channel MacroIntel! |

Edited by: Drayco on 30/12/2005 03:32:38 ive been doing somewhat the same thing as you Corvus but too many of them either have too much "pride" and say no to my ransom when i grab their ship or they are simply afk or marco miners so i just get free killmails sent to me... lol

free kills 4tw? i find it a little pitiful you no longer go ply your trade 'properly'. half assed pirates wtl
i fear we may be at a time were we see a carebear pirate, the ones who are too lame to actually pirate

Pirates looking for easy prey... You would probably **** yourself if they unleashed a bellyfull of drones. Dont want to take the chance your victim might fight back eh?

No, but some, like OP, seem to be afraid of returned fire. _______________________________________________

its not the return fire...its the mass of miners out there that are prolly all in a gang...the last thing i want is me shooting at one mining barge and having 10 other barges warp in to help him

But it does paint a funny picture... 12 mining barges attacking a Mega.... _______________________________________________

Doubt it. I would guess he's doing it for fun and isk, which is the purpose(s) of eve, more or less.

Very true, Dak. Anyways, a pirate looking for a fair/tough/even/decent fight is typically a very lousy pirate.
BTW all, watch for this bug....had an Apoc, Ferox, and jet can all targetted today that were part of a macro ('cept the can, that was where I moved the ore). Ferox comes after me, I shoot back, realize my cap is draining too fast (in a prophecy) and cut off 3 beams to help my armor tank. I keep shooting with the remaining weapons and get my armor fully repped, so I turn the remaining 3 on (Ferox was still my selected target).
They shot at the Apoc (NOT my selected target) and concorde shot me. Petition sent. ------------------------------------ Join Channel MacroIntel! |

Why are the pirate haters so obsessed with the thought that pirates are looking for a fight when they ransom miners? Just because you're talking to the store clerk doesn't mean you're trying to get into her panties.
