At what point do I get caught and punished? Is it as soon as move into the right (or wrong depending which way you look at it) security zone with the goods in my cargo hold? How do they know I'm carrying them...

Edited by: Micia on 30/12/2005 00:52:08 Most stargates have Customs Officials lurking around them. They auto-magically scan your cargohold when you arrive, and also on the far end as you approach the exiting stargate.
Depending on the nature of the illegal goods, you can be fined, lose security status, have the goods confiscated, or even possibly be destroyed on the spot.
The Show Info tab on the contraband will tell you what the various punishments are for being busted, from region to region.
If you want to try and get away with it, you can use the map to "colour stars" by cargo illegality. It might be possible to find a safe route to the destination like so, but from what I've heard it's more likely you'll get caught.
Good luck. |

smuggling illegal goods generally requires covert ops ships.

Just curious...
Will an agent ever ask me to transport illegal goods? And will it be obvious that they are asking me to do so? ----------------------------------------- "Nothing so improves your presence like the lack of it." |

Sometimes they offer you some contrabrand or ask you to bring them some in loyalty point offers. There's a skill that reduces your chances of getting caught. Black Market Trading, I think.

Problem with BLack Market Trading is that you can only get it on character start up. So unless you got the skill when you first made your character you will never be able to get the skill. Which is lame. I would love to see some attention given to smuggling. Put Black Market Trading on the market for one, maybe a new cargo hold mod that lets you hide stuff from customs. I would really enjoy smuggling but the way this is set up in game right now smuggling is next to impossible.

We all would be smugglers if it was easy... Smuggle should be difficult. Just my sci-fi rpg thinking...

I agree with it being difficult... it should be very difficult, however not almost impossible. I would be happy with just the ability to buy Black Market Trading skill after character startup.

I agree with that.

Couldn't you just hide it in a cargo container?

No, that doesn't hide it from the scanners. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk
