Mine does get very hot .... mainly the CPU though and not the graphics card... at least another 10'c than anyother game... and that's on a P4 3.2 HT not even overclocked... going to go and buy another gaming pc ... maybe some dual xeons and run it in dual screen... at the moment dual screening eve on my current computer overheats the computer totally lol

I have been having some problems recently.
I used to run 2 clients with the sound enabled on only one of them and had no problems, but now if I try to start up the second client it crashes my PC even with all the sound switched off.

I started having this problem and thought it was strictly the CPU overheating. I noticed eve didn't throttle processor usage and thought "this must be why I get a happy reboot in the middle of a mission!". But it wasn't that. It's either and GPU heat issue or maybe something wrong with the power supply. Does anyone know if the power supply uses more power when a cpu intensive app takes charge? IT would make sense, if the fans rotate faster. Maybe this causes power consumption to go above specd values?

For those worried about ATi cards and the factory fan settings can I suggest getting ATi Tray Tools (also known as ATT), usually a download with Omega Drivers mod versions of Catalyst drivers but also available separately.
You can use the overclocking settings area to adjust fan speeds. Autofill puts the fan speed at 100% at around 55C for gfx core temp.
I've used these with both Omega Drivers and straight Catalyst and run an unlocked X800 Pro (it has all 16 pipes instead of usual 12) at X800XT speeds. Max GFX temp with 2 Eve clients is 60C with it usually in the 40s for one Eve client. CPU core usually at 40C with one eve client and 50C with 2 clients running.
Having said that I have got 2 120mm fans and one 90mm pulling air through my case. And dust filters in front of the "in" fan so these are a lot easier to clean off than opening case. Last check of case (last weekend) showed no dust had got inside.

Edited by: Lorette on 14/08/2006 12:04:23 Thats weird tbh, when i play EVE its the slackest game on my GPU (barely gets hotter than just browsing windows temp). But it does give my CPU a thorough beating, cant say how hot it gets as i dont have a temp sensor for it like i do with my GPU (well bios can tell me but i dont have a windows one).
What im basically saying is out of all the games i have on my PC its the least taxing overall to my PC.
Oh and another thing, the only fans in my case are the CPU fan, video card fan and PSU fan no actual case fans of mine still function. It never seems to overheat so i let leave it alone.

Originally by: Khar Jattesen My ATI 850 XT was hitting 90c on Eve or any other 3d game (Elder Scrolls : Oblivion was actually tapping 100) I was running before I discovered the fans are soft coded by ATI to the 90c range, they don't even kick in before then.
Environment was in high 80s. According to them the card is fine at 100c. Tell me ATI after the heat cooked my hard drive while playing Eve.
Don't know if nVidia chipset card makers do the same thing. My own solution, double cooled power supply, a new coolermaster server case with lots of fans, a new cooler for the video card, unloaded the ATI control panel software and went with a hacker package that allowed me to define my own fan speeds.
Now I run in the mid 40's. Eve loaded the GPU as well as the CPU, but the heat issue was partly from a crappy off the shelf system case and largely from a video card manufacturer that thinks 15 percent fan speed is fine for 90 celsius.
Not saying its true for every case of overheating, but I am willing to bet bad air flow design inside the case is a good percentage of the issues.
Theorectically, a card like the 440mx shouldn't even load up since its a direct 8 limited card, but stranger things have happened.
You could've also just dled ATI Tool (overclocking Utility) and set your fans to operate at say 100% efficiency when your temperature reaches 80-90 Celsius.
I runa X850 Pro overclocked to 550/600 and run at around 35 Celsius idle, and 45-50 Celsius while playing games. Zalman graphics card fans are great, and worthy buying.
Proud Flip ^^

i play eve on a Dell inspiron 9100 laptop. if anyone is interested i can lookup the specs on what graphics it has built in. I just wanted to add that I play lots of games on it, and Eve by far makes it hotter than any other game or app. It is so hot when playing Eve that I cannot hold it on my lap, it is almost skin burning temperature. The heat seems to come from where I believe the CPU to be and also where I'd bet the graphics card is.. but again those are just guesses.
So, to those who think Eve makes their PC hot, I believe you. It runs absolutely great but I have to prop the laptop up on a small shelf and run a fan underneath it to keep the temp down. It doesn't make any difference whether I am idling or in huge battles, it gets crazy hot as long as Eve is open.
One interesting thing (maybe) is that when I run on batteries, temps are totally normal and Eve plays just as well as when on wall power. Perhaps this is due to some battery conservation cpu throttling. I don't thnk the graphic card gets slowed down by power management so maybe that points to the CPU as being the primary source of heat?
Don't think that I am confusing the heat from charging the battery. That comes from a different area, is not nearly as intense, and goes away once the battery is fully charged. In fact I tried running the laptop without any battery in it just to make sure, and it still gets just as scorching hot while in Eve.
Well I hope maybe someone can look into this if it is a problem for people. Seems like Eve has bigger problems these days though. I just noticed all the people trying to shrug off the claims and I wanted to say that they are at least in some cases true.

sitting in station
CPU: 45c GPU: 55c
mission/warp
CPU: 50c GPU: 62c
my setup is.
P4 2.4ghz none OC'ed imperial G mobo 1GB pny ram (2 x 512mb) 60GB samsung spin HDD (7200rpm) NV6600LE 256mb none OC stock cooler with added mem cooling heatsinks.
i used to have problems untill i slapped on a 80mm fan inplace of the 60mm stock cpu fan. temps dropped instantly. no reboots, drop to desktop, etc etc after 20hrs constant eve load. i run the nvidia beta 91** drivers with coolbits2 reg hack. i run 2 x 9cm fans 4 x 8cm fans and a 12cm psu fan. room temp is a nice 26c
look for the dust devils inside your case, clean out heatsinks/dust filters. look at changing stock GPU coolers for a better make, also your CPU heatsink and fan setup. make sure there is uniformed air flow through case. tie back any loose, bulked cables for better air flow. make sure fans dont work against each other. then see if eve makes system play up.

I have a Pentium IV 2600 Mhz and a NVidia geforce 5200 and 512 DDRAM, and i have the same problem with overheating with this game. Yesterday the computer rebooted like 3 times in a few hours. I have to start the air conditioned just to cool down the room a little. It begins to be a problem. The game requirements must include a good cooling device in ur CPU lol. I'm the worst nightmare for pirates...I never have nothing to loot!!! |

I have the same issue with my little Core Duo Mac Mini. After 10 minutes or so in EVE I can ear the fan spin up... From there if I put my hand behind the case I can feel the heat comming out the back grill, which is normaly barely warm if at all.
I found it produce less eat if I force EVE to run on a single core tho.. it still heat and spin the fan tho.

Well, I returned to play the EVE from one kind of "vacation". Suprise suprise, when I re-activated my account and played 5 minutes I got a announcement about overheating GPU. It was 125C, haha. No other game does this onto my PC. So, what's this whole thing anyway in EVE? What's wrong? What makes the GPU to run "overloaded" or something? There isn't much on the screen when I am sitting at the station with my Ferox, d**n it.
So, I need every kind of suggestions and tips to get EVE working as it should, if it is possible. Or does CCP know about this problem anyways? Is there any patch to be made? :/ Sadness...

i only have a heat problem when i am in a station. then my notebook fan goes in stage 2...which is pretty loud. but only in station...as soon as i leave the station it goes down again.
on thing is...i did not reinstall EVE after i formated my WinXP...EVE was on D: while WinXP is on C:...so i just started it without installing...don`t know if it has something to do with that. no use for a sig |

Nothing to do with that, EVE doesn't use registry entries IIRC.

The p4 3.2 HT Prescott's are known to run hot, If you havent trashed the stock intel heatsink/fan I would highly recommend doing so and buying an aftermarket heatsink/fan. Before I did, eve would have my cpu at 70+ celcius, which in turn made everything else run hot. Now on full load I rarely go over 56c/138f.

Edited by: Kristof Foxen on 22/11/2006 16:36:31 I won't go into details, but it is of my personal experience that EVE DOES tend to run some graphics cards REMARKABLY hot, especially if they're already having issues with their heat sinks (in my experience, comparitively, EVE forces a shutdown due to overheat in such scenarios FAR sooner than most other games).
So in short, no, your experience is by no means unique, and I suspect its shared by those of us that have run with faulty cards that require extra love and attention before. EVE certainly builds things up to critical overheat faster if there is a problem in the first place with your graphics card cooling. At least, in my experience. And given this knowledge, it wouldn't surprise me at all if EVE runs CPUs similarly hot. What can I say? CCP has made one heck of a hot product! Ah, I love the puns. :)
Of course, if your graphics card or cpu is working in a healthy manner anyway there shouldn't even be a problem. This thread seems more to me about noting a quirk regarding EVE and the hardware it runs ragged than about any particular complaint or troubleshooting issue. ;)

my older card, Geforce 4 TI 4600, met his end with Eve. Kapoet from overheating, the new card however still lives.
