Some of you may or may not know of Diablo II. Well there is a chat program that allows you to connect without having to log into the game. I wonder if something like this would be possible in the eve world. Then you could log on from work and talk with people in channels. Would be a great asset I think.

That would be great indeed. It's too hard to be there at work all day long, being only able to use the forums.

This and the fact that the ingame chat system is bugridden as hell is why many corps rely primarily on out-of-game communication (Forums, IRC) instead.
I know Fountain Alliance makes heavy use of IRC for communication, since the ingame chat system is so bugridden, plus I don't know if it's possible to have a multi-corporation secure chatroom. (Yes, there's password protection, but that's bugged out the wazoo and can't compare to having server op privileges like Xanadu does on their own IRC channels.)

I would prefer if this did not surface as then it would be used to spam channels and such will adverts using bots. Such like the Diablo II chatrooms are plagued with Ebay sellers using spambots to advertise their websites.

Prefer that the chat mechanism be part of Eve. That way you can assume other folks have it and are using it... making it more likely people will hear you scream in space....
