Hi guys, Since I almost lose my battleship from 10 or more frigates in high sec I would like to ask how you can use those smart bombs everyone's say?
If I use them when I have warped through an acceleration gate will concord kill me?
Do I lose standing or something?
Since in overview I can't see near concord ship will I still die?
Is it a clever idea to use them in ship that has one free high slot in high sec?
Thank you |

You will be instantly melted by CONCORD if you use any bomb in highsec, for any reason.
Use in nullsec only.

Smart-bombs are tricky.
you can activate them in high security space, but you must not hit something that can cause concord to spawn.
Things like a neutral rookie ship that flew right next to you, npc rocks large colisomething objects and many other things.
If you have the range of the smartbomb clear then you can use it. |

keep your tactical view open.
move your cursor to the smart bomb module to see the radius that the bomb has, if you see something inside that radius then don't turn it on if there are only rats then you are free to use it.
Edit : thx for the like :) |

cloacked ships are a problem for sure but if you are not in a busy system with many ninja salvagers then you don't have a problem.
My advice is train your drone skills. you can kill frigates fast with light drones. |

Are those 20 frigates NPCs in a mission ?
If so, and if you're in a properly fitted Battleship in a level 4 mission, you should be able to totally ignore them while you focus your fire on the real damagers, the NPC Battleships, Battlecruisers and some Cruisers ...
I usually ignore the frigs until I have cleared everything else, then use a flight of 5 Tech 2 Light Drones to kill the non-elite versions while I blap the elites with Precision Cruise missiles + Target Painter ... My skills : Kery Nysell, Jestra Nysell, Kotoko Nysell, Kotone Nysell |

If twenty frigs are a problem for you you're doing something wrong that even smarties won't help you with in the long run.
Never use smarties in high-sec except if you wanna suicide gank someone.
Related story: Once in Airkio a two or three day old newb asked for help in an L1 mission. Me being the nice guy that I am and sitting in a Kestrel at the time say "sure." We fleet up and warp into the deadspace pocket. Two handfulls of drone frigs wait which he is struggling with something fierce. My T2 rocket Kessie makes short work of them and only two or three of them are left when I hear "dat CRAAACK." I'm about to post not to use smarties in fleet chat when two white crosses appear and go to work on him. I'm pretty sure they one-volleyed him. He quit! |

If I knew for sure you were flying even a semi-pimped ship in high sec with smartbombs I'd go out of my way to lose a covops just to see what drops. Concord ganks you for me; what could go wrong?

Killing a NPC frigate takes like 3 seconds with maxed drone skills. Less if you're using drone boat (ship with drone damage bonus + you're using Drone Damage Amplifiers).

Locator agents.
And probing down a battleship doesn't take long. You don't even need maxed skills. |

And thats why I made the precision of possibly wasted. What if the locator tell you he's 2 region away? You burn there? What if he is logged out at the point? Or slowboating with loot back 1 region again to sell his loot/buy ammo?
It sure can be done but at some point, it become a waste of time imo. |

A few things:
Yes you can smartbomb without getting Concorded in hi-sec. You are required to turn your safeties off to do so. You don't want any object that isn't an NPC pirate ship in range when you do. Concord flags some weird objects, and you can't always know which is which. As mentioned, a **** cloaker could tail you in the hopes that you SB him and get dokken'd, but... you could also have an aneurysm and die at your keyboard.
That being said: I wouldn't. I've done it in the past against those destructible battlestations some missions want you to take down. I didn't want to waste ammo, or wait for drones to chew it down, so I came back with my mission ship strapped with SBs, parked next to it and let them rip. It worked, but I was constantly worried that something would go wrong and my nice shiny ship would get blown up by the cops. Not worth it.
Train up your drone skills, kill the frigs as they burn toward you, fit an MJD, a target painter, web, anything. There are many far better ways to kill frigs that don't risk you losing your ship. |

+1
When properly tanked with rat-specific hardners, you should easily be able to tank mission rats. If you show us what you're flying, we might be able to help you deal with these little buggers more effectively. |

First off... Damn Bro... All that bling and only a baby tank!!!!
Smart Bombs would not have helped in this situation. As others have said, don't use them in High Sec. It's suicide. Throw on more tank if you're going to use such expensive modules. You don't really need to instapop in missions and, Eve being Eve, nothing tastes better than Bling & Tears.

4-6 Gank Tornados will probably pop any PVE fitting mission ship. The counter to this is to watch what's around you and don't always go for bling fits. T2 works most of the time.
Ugh that ship was a mercy kill. Deadspace invuln.. Not only overpriced but garbage omni tank. Should have used specific T2 hardeners Faction guns... Adds to the gank and T2 would work just as good Cheap T1 tracking computer and afterburner... Really? Didn't have enough ISK for T2 after buying the invuln?

This quote is either BLATANTLY, INTENTIONALLY FALSE, or the poster is just plain ignorant of the facts.
1. BOMBS can't be used in high sec. They won't go off, you can't launch them. 2. SMARTbombs are very much usable in high sec; I used them several times when I need to grind L1's for a couple alts to get their standing up enough to better agents. Never got CONCORDed once, and I OFTEN set them off within range of deadspace structures. And NO, I never set them off with other people around. 3. If you *DO* set one off in high sec with INNOCENTS (ie, non-aggressors) around and they are hit, you will get CONCORDed. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |
