Officially do our ships have crews ? (Ignoring the much reference single reference in Killers Hand)
If our ships are crewed why are their no references in game to it ?
If our ships are crewed are they slaves? Why do they work for free? Why dont there skills affect the ships capabilities? Why dont they eject from a scuttled ship?
Why arent there marine actions? (Mmmmm mini-games of Breach :D) The perversity of the Universe tends towards a maximum - O'Toole's Corollary of Finagle's Law |

It may be something for EVE II, i hope they drop the pod thing, and let people run around outside.

EVE Ships DO not have Crews. That is why you are in a POD filled with amniotic fluids. Once you enter the POD your brain is connected directly to all ship functions and for that reason you become a CPU of the ship. in turn you can process commands and controll vast array of machinery by yourself.
Go read Scientific Articles and EVE history and Stories. Its all outlined there, after you read about a dozen you get an idea as to whats the lore supposed to be.
And officially no, our ships dont have crew - Just a POD-Pilot in a POD.

Logically our ships dont have crew, however there are references in the official fiction to a amar battleships crew level.
I personally feel that this is a old tale told long ago possibley when the Amarr fleet started using pod pilots & crews as a redundancy. (If you really wanna justify this rather tenous link) The perversity of the Universe tends towards a maximum - O'Toole's Corollary of Finagle's Law |

You sir, have a very strange definition of trolling. Anyway what Jozeph said was fact, we are pod pilots. There are no crews, we leave the lights on because our ships look a bit more purty that way.

According to old fluff, frigate-class vessels have no crews; depending on the size and automation of the cruiser or battleship, it may have a crew ranging from a few dozen to several thousands.

This is exactly the same thing I was thinking about last night. Funny how there is no mention of the number of hands on deck.
I for one, though, am glad my rifter only seats one. I would hate to share the*****pit with anyone while I listen to my tunes and check out the bootleg holoreels on my 15" flatscreen control panel dohicky thing.

yes ships have crew, pod technology allows commands to be issued direct from the captain therefore making a ship more responsive. however crew are still need just in a lower number
Read Hands of a killer<-- someone above mention it also Forsaken ruins
Quote: nspecting the massive gashes in its hull. Judging from the metallic carnage, he estimated that sections of at least 6 decks were now exposed directly to space. Somewhere beneath where he was sitting, hundreds of crewmembers were sealing off compartments, fighting electrical fires and desperately struggling to keep his ship's vital systems functioning. How many of them died because of this, he wondered. As the captain of the ship, he was sealed inside a pod made of an ultra-strong, Jovian-manufactured alloy and neurologically connected to the Blackbird's systems. Inside of it, so long as the ship was intact, the captain was immune from harm. It was the Jovians who had introduced this remarkable innovation, and it had changed the face of naval warfare forever.
and Wet grave
Quote: is is a capsule," Anu said to the Caldari. "It is used to control a ship. With it a ship a big as this one can be controlled with only a handful of crew and smaller ships, like your frigates, can even be controlled by a single person."
Also if u find the very old eve site with ship details it also gives crew numbers --------

Yes, some ships have crews, some people RP having some sort of replacement (I personally go with having smaller than normal crews due to the use of drone and other machinery) for them, a few others try to RP not using a pod, or using a quasi-pod of some sort.
Anyrate, depending on the ship, your answer is yes or no.

Officially, all ships have a crew. I think that's kind of dumb. I thought the reason you have to train a skill for everything is because that skill is a software program that tells your brain how to interface with that ship system and control it directly? And if you have a direct brain link with every ship system, I don't think you'd need anyone else to operate it.
Edit: Until you have to hire and pay the upkeep for crews, I will pretend that my ships are completely crewless. But NPC ships may be crewed traditionally, or may be pod-piloted.

Edited by: Sadayiel on 01/01/2006 06:40:26 There is Crew but just not normal ones, most of the person there are workers keeping up the systems "inside the ship" more than leading it.
The pod allow you to control everything from the ship, and the crew just keep care about the systems not damaged, more than anything on the ship.
Of course no one says that the whole ship can't be empty or that there is some few gallente drones working in, or some ammar slaves working there.
So just build your idea and keep it, my ships get a "backup tripulation" that just act as a second option for combat i lead everything but they are there, and are part of the whole history of my char =)
BTW i think old man star history is from much time before Caldari-gallente war, so there wasn't any pod yet unless in jovian's ships.
Sorry for oversized sig before =P |

I think you should be able to board ships and take over other peoples ships..It would give host to tons of cool ****e...like combat skills, personal defense weapons etc.. maybe pvp between charaters. Then maybe a working girl like me could get some action...Thats my 2 cents...discount handjobs behind the nearest station..happy new years biotches!!!

Way back in beta there were crewmen on your ship. There was no playability of it then -- it was just a number. However, there was talk of implementing the effects of lost crew, etc. I guess it never made the 'must have' list.

Yeah the ships do have crews, but they are all maintainence staff, personally I dont have any crew as none of my ships survive long enough to need maintianing.

It's assumed no matter what when your ship pops, the entire crew dies.
Everyone is natrually evil in this world, but thats alright, the crew has clones and they follow you to whatever new ship you buy.
lol, jk
