I have had a threadnaught on the features and ideas section running for some time with this proposal here, and I had started a similar thread in the assembly hall here which is now locked due to inactivity.
Basically the idea is very simple, remove high security space connections between the four empires and replace them with connections to new low security space regions that will serve as the new travel routes.
After getting 150 likes and a great deal of support and having countered most of the arguments against it I feel it is worth bringing here again, because I think the idea is desperately needed to shake up the game for the better.
- Hi-Sec is stagnant and homogenous, despite lots of unique commodities being available exclusively in certain parts of space the prices for these items are almost totally homogenous everywhere. Trade is little more than all industrialists dropping off goods in Jita and Traders taking those items elsewhere to increase the prices. This makes trade a rather boring endeavor, that involves mostly looking over spreadsheets and using autopilot.
- Being a pirate is not a career that can be made viable easily. Traveling over Low-Sec is unnecessary and far to risky to be worth doing over an almost risk free method of using hi-sec that can be done AFK. Suicide ganking is a factor but it only affects the ignorant and arrogant.
- Encourages small gang pvp outside of faction warfare plexes. This would be an obvious bump to gate camping which as everyone knows is not a very fun thing to do, so why would we want to create a change that encourages more of this behavior? Well if there is constantly a gate camp happening somewhere nearby for nearly everyone, then attacking those gate camps would happen encouraging fights.
- It really doesn't hurt anyone who doesn't want to participate. Missioners, miners, and industrialists would only see fairly minor changes to their gameplay that wouldn't really change much. Traders would still have safe methods of transport, but at lower volumes for much better profit margins.
- There would actually be a difference between the different empires. Having an actual obstacle to cross would make Hi-Sec feel much larger and each area more unique. Warfare in Hi-Sec itself would have a greater dimension to it because now you have an option to run away from your attackers and have a chance of being safe. The local economy of current minor hubs like dodixie and rens would see a large increase in trade volumes, boosting quality of life for those who wish to buy and sell locally.
