So watching a old episode of stargate somthing I saw that now bothers me...
Anyone who watches even a little bit of stargate knows that when the stargate "flushes" sideways everything in the path of the swirls when the gate opens get disinigrated... Now watching stargate I see that the stupid ram going up INTO the stargate and going through nothing ever happens to it... Thats one strong ramp...

theres a small gap at the gate on each side, since its a Military installation theres no "Mind the Gap" signs. or its made from the same stuff as the Iris.

I think the point being made by the "Only a TV show" comment is not everything is going to be perfectly synced with the shows reality. That and it's all fake, as long as it's enjoyable to watch who cares? I mean you don't sit and research the weapons they use and meticoulously count the bullets they shoot to check if they're shooting to many do you? Overall, just enjoy the show and don't worry so much aboutthe sci-fi show being real enough.
And yeah, embarasing geek moment here but there is a gap on both sides. ::sigh:: I shouldn't know that, but I remember loads of pointless stuff like that, but forget simple tings like some of my college work or sending a bill in on time. Perhaps I can get a doctor to flip my brain around a bit so it works correctly?

Granted it is a tv show however I also thought that.
My answer; the unstable wormhole as it "flushes outwards" has a smaller diameter next to the gate than it does further out from the gate, like a wedge/cone shape. Thus giving the appearence when looking from the front that it is "eating" the ramp up but if viewed from the side it doesn't.
Thats my science done for today.
Btw have not seen atlantis as yet, is it any good ppl?

hmm someone really knows his stargate. Very correct
Atlantis is quite good, I really like it myself. But you have to be a fan of SG-1 to really get it.

Atlantis is miserable compared to classic SG1. Its campy, silly, has a horrible cliched story, and every episode is a massive cliched mess. Some have good aspects to them, but overall its a disgrace to the name Stargate.

i have another question about stargate (same idea)...
Sometimes they close the iris BEFORE the wormhole engages. doesn't this mean they need a new iris every time the gate activates?
