Edited by: Brazz SilverPocket on 03/01/2006 17:27:38 Color me happy. I have a partially outfitted Maulus that I purchased to complete a combat mission an Agent gave me in Vaere a couple days ago, it's really stripped down still...75mm Railgun, 150MM Railgun both loaded with Antimatter charges. Nothing else except Civilian Armor Repairer, Civilian Shield Booster and Damage Control - Very basic without any Electronic Warfare. That mission went so well that I decided to try my hand out at a little rat hunting in a belt I frequent for mining in 0.7 space. I killed several small groups 2-3 of Serpentis Initiates, Spy, etc. when I stumbled across a group of 4 Serpentis. Three of them were I think Serpentis Watchmen perhaps, or Initiates..the other was a new one to me in my young (5 days) career..a Shadow Serpentis Spy. I quickly moved to engage the Shadow Serpentis Spy without even a thought as to the capabilities or bounty it had..I wanted to make sure I cleared it out first since it might be a larger threat then the others. I quickly dispatched it and the rest and went about collecting my containers, I grabbed a Web Stasifier (sp?) and several other things including a couple Small Nosferatu I and a Hornet scout drone when I popped the container from the Shadow Serpentis Spy. Wow! On top of the 45,000 isk bounty which I noticed in my wallet I picked up 100 rounds of Shadow Tungsten charges, an F-90 Positional Subroutines, a couple other nice items I can't recall right now and a Tech II Low-Grade Snake Alpha I almost fell off my chair, having never encountered a Tech II item before I figured I had something good. A quick check of Market Value didn't show any buyers for it, but a few sellers at 24-29million ISK each! Well, since I was looking to to expand my capabilities and get an Iteron and other stuff I moved to sell it to a new friend...perhaps I got a low-ball figure but still to me 20million ISK is a HUGE boost to my wallet and gives me more room to do stuff. Thanks to CCP for spawning that spy in front of me, and thanks to the person that suggested the setup on the ship I use, and of course to the buyer of the implant. I'm surely one HAPPY noob. Take care! PS - Now I just need to find more of these Shadow Serpentis.

Mining in high sec for the trit for a new BS. Thought how come that Thug lasted a full second longer than the others. Domination 200mm Domination Autocannon, not a massive find but surprising while semi afk in a 0.8. Would be nice for a new guy.

Edited by: Jennai on 03/01/2006 17:52:15 it's a lot easier for new players to get into the real game now. I created a trial account in april 2004 and spent the 2 weeks mining in crappy frigates with corpmates because there wasn't really anything else to do except mine or kill belt rats. we would mine for hours and get like 300k each. then we got grief-warred and I quit. reactivated account in January and it was a completely different game. now you get like 1m from the tutorial and implant, and you have miner 2s and reasonably priced ships and agent missions and faction spawns in empire belts, and you don't have to suffer through weeks of mining in an imicus to be able to afford a cruiser. ------- macro hunters - join channel MacroIntel macro miner killboard: www.anti-macro.com

Edited by: Brazz SilverPocket on 03/01/2006 18:14:42 Thanks for the grats everyone! I was a HUGE boost to my wallet and ego when it happened. I come from another game (That I won't name, but has a "RL Economy" and I've used to have GREAT luck there as well..but in the past month or so it's dried up completely. Seeing this Tech II item, and getting some other nice stuff along the way (Drones and other modules like Webifier and Disrupters) really made my day. I'll definately be doing more rat hunting for sure now. Thanks to a few VERY kind players here in EVE I've been given many tips, as well as a 500k donation in my first day, and on my second day a fully outfitted Navitas (Thanks to those people! You know who you are!) which made my starting days much easier. Now this influx of credits will help me to explore more possibilities. Without touching this cash I was able to purchase myself an Iteron Mark I, Giant Secure Container, Anchoring skill and Drone skills and now have a nice little mining op of my own running where I drone kill the NPC rats with my miner while I do it's thing and dump into my secure container...then just bring in the hauler after to clear it out. I pulled up just over 208k ISK in Dense Veldspar last night in the first run...maybe not great by most standard but made me smile for sure since it paid for the container and skills I purchased already. However more important to me then the skills, ships, modules and cash are the friends I've already made here in EVE. Perhaps one day it'll lead to a new corporation..but for now I'm very happy to have friends to chat with and run ops. Thanks again everyone, EVE really DOES have the best player community. I wish you all the same luck I had...but only if I get more of it too.

Thus far I've been lucky...I'm sure it won't last, but PvP is part of the game so I won't cry TOO much when it does happen.

Very nice drop from a very rare NPC especially for Empire. Just a little tip from a trading and building veteran: money makes money. Keep like 20 million of that sale price tucked away in investments that can make you a permanent income. Eve is quite unforgiving to your wallet when you start PvP'ing :-)

Originally by: Kage Getsu I've done hundreds of level 3s and I have picked up every single can and I have not afound a single faction item or implant >:( That's cause agent mission npc's generally don't drop much good loot, I have only ever seen one commander spawn in a mission and got a somewhat decent passive armor hardener out of it. You will have greater luck finding officer spawns in belts and you are guaranteed they will at least drop a can. My best find has to be a Local Hull Expander from a 4,000 isk rat at a gate

After about 3 months of the forementioned Bad Mojo, I had a fantastic evening ratting in a .4 the other day. Came across back to back faction frigate spawns. One had a Low-Grade Slave Delta, and the other a Low-Grade Slave Omega(which I am currently trying to auction[someone buy it so I'm not poor anymore lol]). This was after a month of watching a corpie newer than myself rake in the cash while I picked up 1MN ABs and Cap Boosters. Good things come to those who wait.

Call me cynical, but I find it weird that everyone is happy because he found a rare spawn and it dropped something rare. Is such an everyday affair in almost every other MMO such a cause for celebration in Eve? Sure, it's nice for a newbie, but it required neither skill nor knowledge nor anything else, just dumb luck, like winning a lottery. That said, grats to the OP.
