Is there something wrong with the belts all of a sudden? A few days ago, I stopped being able to find almost any omber at all, in systems where I had found many dozens of omber asteroids a day before. I've found a total of three omber rocks in four 0.6 sec systems in the last three days or so. Now I'm looking for scordite, and the system I'm looking in (and where I've found plenty of scordite in the past) appears to have a total of seven asteroids (all veldspar) in the entire system. And yes, my overview settings include every type of asteroid.
I'm a little confused here - anyone have any clue as to what's going on? Are people just mining that much, and the asteroids aren't regenerating fast enough or something?

Too many people mining too few belts. In higher-sec areas, it's mostly because of the macrominers. In 0.6, I imagine it's probably because normal people have nothing to mine in the higher sec-ratings due to the macrominers, so they ALL mine in slightly lower sec like 0.6, hence wiping out most of those belts too. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

They can mine out a system quickly enough to leave only 7 asteroids before any of them respawn?
Hmm...I'm clearly not using the right mining setup...

A professional mining team, large barges with industrials can clear all belts in a system within a day. Our corp clears a belt with 3 barges and 1 industrial in a few hours. So yes. Some mining corps jump from system to system clear all belts then start a serie of manufacturing runs, then do a few mining ops.

So the belts replenish every day or so, then?

Sort of. An asteroid that is destroyed will respawn at a minimum size during downtime. An asteroid that is not destroyed will "grow" a certain amount at downtime. So if you mine out an entire belt, the whole thing will come back, but the 'roids will be rather small. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

I'm not sure why I was doing so well at smaller scale mining for the two weeks previous to this...I could find plenty of ore whenever I needed it. I wouldn't have converted my trial account to a paid one if I thought this was going to happen. I've completely geared this character towards mining, so it's fairly pointless for now to try and do much else.

Go to more out-of-the-way areas. The macrominers are a problem, but the haven't eaten ALL of EVE. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

Hmmmm,
Actually I'm becoming more convinced that the 'respawn' hasn't happened this year yet at all.......
I know lots of people are still off work/school, but it's starting to look suspicious......

There are over 1000 high sec systems in EVE.
Probably 50 are heavily mined. Move. There's plenty more for ya. - Proud member of the [23].

I'm also of the opinion that someone has borked the respawn... was in a field pre-DT day before yesterday and there were plenty of roids... 10 mins after the servers came back up there were just a handful of pitiful roids...

I am entirely convinced that at least in the regions I use there have been no spawns in at least a week. I log on right after downtime, and there has been no spawn. Some of the belts are now nothing more than a couple of Veld asteroids as everything else has been mined out.
Whether this is due to a fault or to design I cannot say, but i hope its a fault as it would be a dull thing if intentional.

In a way, i hope once a roid pops its gone for ever. This will encourage drastic action against suspected zombie-miners, encourage local chat, and encourage respect for the environment by discouraging needless destruction of pretty asteroids. *goes back to applying makeup*

This young miner used most of yesterday zapping from system to system and belt to belt - most were completely empty or just with a few rocks... Plenty of huge, secure containers though... This does not bode well...

the belts use to respawn every down time full and fresh that changed shortly after launch of eve, here say is that if you mine all the basic ore to depletion it will respawn small and slowly if you mine the rare ore they will turn in to basic ore if depleted, i dont think any one really knows i dont recall ccp ever giving a say on the belt spawn rate, prolly to stop the belt hogs "fleet mining in empire"macrominers werent a huge deal till castor came out..,i use to pace my self when i was new id mine a week and seperate the load of ore in to two piles one for a nest egg and one to sell right away "nest egg" i waited till i had better refine skills or could find someone with better refine skills to do the lot.i figured why make someone eles rich with my hard work sellin whole ore when 90% of the time minerals sell for more.

Well, roid respawning and growth is definitely NOT taking place in Eve any more. I mine jaspet and Kern in low sec space and the belts have died! There are no Macro miners where I mine so that is not the problemàbesides, we all know isk farmers are wimps and not dare mine in low sec space.
Something is wrongà.

I've been in 0.5 space for several days now and am finding lots of empty belts as well. A few are empty and the rest are down to only a few rocks.
Guess its time to leave secure space... ----------------------------------------------- Just another refugee from SW:G |

I have'nt seen any new roids spawn since last thursday. And I've been checking every day. If this does'nt get fixed soon might as well quit.

This seems to be a major issue which none of the devs have said a peep on, tuesday night should have seen a 'roid spawn, but there wasn't. Perhaps they took the omber and jaspet out of empire space and we're just not noticing the lesser ores being replenished, but people are saying there are whole belts where not a single roid came back. This is a big issue.

Corporate chat is absolutely filled to the brim with people who cannot find ANY asteroids in dozens of systems.
Something is absolutely wrong. There's no way the macro miners/mining corps can possibly drain all of empire (including low sec) every day without missing a single 'roid for 2 days running. There are some .4 belts which are even out of Veldspar.

Ehe, very good! I guess that EVE is no different from any other MMPOGs I've been close to; and is labouring under the conflict between content and profit - cut the shoe to fit the mean, common denominator. Well, we shall see... UO (Ultima Online) in the beginning comitted the grave mistake of not cummunicating 'flops' to the player community. This they have rectified, and over the last few years been very open obout problems, thus creating a larger community and a bond with the players... As players we can hope that EVE will do the same...

Edited by: Tombert on 04/01/2006 21:24:39 A couple weeks ago I moved to a very isolated .5 system surrounded by .2 systems and 0.0 systems. I picked the system becuase, after watching the average jumps per hour, it was a quiet and unused system.
I found tons of Omber and procedeed to mine, and mine well, for a week or so, making sure there was always some Omber left in each belt.
Since last friday, after a group stripped the belts (I think, they had weird names and were born at the same time, though I will not jump to conclusions) no omber has respawned.
Its been 5 days...
Would be nice to know whats going on.

Don't go to Amarrian space - all the asteroids are going there too... its definitely to force us into 0.0, I think they wan't us out of empire so they can redecorate, new wallpaper, fresh bit of paint it'll be lovely. Wont take more than ooooh, 6 months or so, then anyone who's account is still active can come back.. |

Omber was respawning in some of the .5 Sinq belts every TUE, but nothing for the last 10 days. If this is the result of an intentional change, it would be nice if there was some announcement to that effect, even in the form of a storyline event in the news items. |
