OK, here's my problem, we have this software I'm testing, and they recently changed the interface for it. I'm not happy with the way they did it, so I wanna show them a mockup of a better (IMO) interface.
I'm no programer, but I used Visual Studio back when I had it installed on my computer to do that before, now I don't have it anymore on the new computer, and it's not quite justified to ask for it.
So I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me of a few free (? and as light as possible) tools to make such a mockup interface.
(Would also help me so I can submit a few UI improvements for EVE too!) ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide to use them) |

I don't know anything about this kinda stuff but perhaps you could use something like photoshop and just have images showing what you would like the interface to be?

Thanks, pen and paper is what I use right now, but it's harder to explain the feeling the new UI can have when you're working with it.
As for PhotoShop, that is an idea, but it takes a lot longer to do it than if I was able to drag & drop controls on the forms. ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide to use them) |

I can't quite justify any of the prices required by some of the applications I found that can do this (Flash is included). Most things I see are priced around 400+ USD. ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide to use them) |

Edited by: Metternich Stele on 04/01/2006 16:24:49 I would 1) Get a screen capture of a some UI or other cut it into bits and pieces and in Photoshop
or
2) Mock it up with MS-Access forms or Excel forms if you have them.

Why not use Paint to screen capture current interface and remark locations that require changing? Also, why not demonstrate to them live using the current application and show them, why is it hard to use? ----------------

pencil and paper.
At least, that's how we do it here and it works fine.

As I said before, this is a bit long, and i can't add all the information i want on a simple 50 pixel wide menu. There are some screens where the whole interface should be redone - I guess the difference in culture shows.
Pen and paper is overrated, so ... 90's. Besides, I was kinda hoping there might be a way to take my work and integrate it into theirs, eliminating spelling mistakes and stuff.

Due to the time difference that prevents me from directly communicating with the developpers. ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide to use them) |
