So, I don't really know anything about null. I go sometimes. Mostly exploration. 10 or 15 jumps in. It doesn't really strike me as meaningfully different from other places in the game. Not harder. Not better. Neither more populated nor less.
But I'm looking at the star map and I'm zoomed pretty close in, thinking about which 2 or 3 nearby systems I'll visit. Then I zoom out. And I see a lot of systems. And I wonder... can there really be people in them? Is all of null owned and populated? I see what looks like systems 40 or 50 jumps from high. Are there players out there?
I'm not really interested in going. Nowhere to park. No one to talk to. Little to do. But I suppose you could manage if you had enough people working together. So, what is the population density 60 or 100 jumps from Jita... anyone know? |

Vast amounts of it are dead empty.
The "hubs" shift as systems change hands.
There are places that are just as populated as some places in empire, though unless you are blue, you'll be podded back to your medical clone station. |

With insight like this, I should have just gone with my first instinct - ignore the worthless forums and explore it myself. |

The alliance I'm in is in Providence. When I go there, it's quite busy. More busy than many high sec places I've been, actually. That makes sense to me - it's right near high and low, not far from main trade hubs. So, I've seen "busy null" ...
But when you say "dead empty", you mean no one is even holding sov there? Or it's just 2 or 3 campers hanging out day to day?
It seems to me CCP wouldn't want to have systems that did nothing. Especially considering the mechanics of how things spawn and move in the game. It takes servers and such to run those systems - no one in them is wasted resources. Why not close them down? Even if there are a few people, it'll tighten things up, make more dynamic content if you cram people into smaller space. |

I used to do more stuff in wormholes. It was fairly common to find one with no one in it. And there are something like 2500 wh spaces, right? If there are double that in k spaces, then it would seem like a lot of it would have to be pretty damn vacant. |

No, I mean go there and AFK cloak all day if you want and not see anyone except people passing through if that. I don't know if there are any truly unowned systems though I know that there are owned systems that few go to, if ever.
Hell, don't even bother to AFK cloak if you're feeling ballsy. |

Hmm... it's a shame a little exploration frigate has such a puny cargo space. It sounds like it would be pretty easy to fly out, see the sites, and just log out in space if you want. Thing is, it's really too far to go - you'd fill your hold with loots doing the 30 jumps to get there in the first place. |

I never seem to have any trouble in low with a camp - a properly fit ship can avoid them. But I suppose a bubble might cramp my style. :) |

Null is full of super scary boogeymen.
Boogeymen who cloak up, POS up, Dock up, safe up when you come into local.
Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

My negative experiences in null have largely been oriented around finding no exploration targets or having someone try to sound threatening in local.
I've found low to be much more dangerous. But then, I don't really spend any time in null, so maybe I just don't know. |
