Semi-planned in advance due to the baby's position (breech presentation). If the baby would have turned before the contractions started, it would have been a natural birth. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T Build your own EVE PC http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1559734 |

Serious congrats from my main, my alt, my alt's alt, my forum alt and me.
Dear Akita,
you have helped newbies and veterans alike in understanding eve's underlying game mechanics. You have lectured CCP devs on more than one occasion. You are adored (or at least liked) by all who had the pleasure of reading your posts.
You know we would have deserved a GD post for this kind of announcement ! But then, I wouldn't have gotten in on page 2 ... so I'm fine with that.
Sebastian sounds cool ... you can always shorten it to "sebo" and smirk as suddenly you have an eve-related name. Probably better than Thanatos ...
good luck Akita.
Also, can someone explain what this thread is about?-á (Relax ! I'm just quoting Holgrak Blacksmith here.)
When life gives you lemons, swap letters and poof: melons, solemn melons.

Ungh, it was hard enough fatigue-wise to keep just the wife non-annoyed with my schedule, but now... ...and (in retrospective comparison) it was almost passable for a few days, but it went downhill in the last two-three days :|
With insanely frequent and surprisingly lengthy feedings (most of it spent screaming for a breast only to just play with it instead of eating), endless pre-burping tapping sessions afterwards (least we want yet again to clean up regurgitated or even vomited breast milk from just about everywhere, then start the whole feeding cycle again), and of course diaper changes (thankfully, exclusively breast-fed baby excrement doesn't really stink at all, it almost smells like freshly boiled sweet cheese), most things which "require" my assistance to some degree), you don't even get to sit down much, let alone sleep or waste time on the internet. I think I'm awake since 32 hours ago, or maybe even longer. And I'm still too agitated to sleep, while the wife still tries to put the baby back to sleep yet again. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T Build your own EVE PC http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1559734 |

Congratulations Akita!!! You will enjoy this so much as I you are an educator at heart. Watching the development of your own child is unbelievable Applying only a light guiding hand will prove challenging for us, but I know you are up for the task and will be great father.
I wish you the luck that I have had with my daughter. 18 months of bliss. She is so good.
Enjoy every day. Take lots of pictures and video; it is so easy now! I have all my footage quadruple backed up with so little effort and cost. |

Akita T wrote:We have a few "official" film-print pictures from the hospital, but we haven't digitized them yet. There's also a couple of videos on my personal facebook page (which for obvious reasons, sorry, "no can link" here) of the baby just after birth and a few hours later, but they're pretty brief and of mediocre image quality (low light, phone camera). I'll see if I can extract a couple of relevant stills from those. ( EDIT: there you go a few minutes after extraction - http://imgur.com/nU9gCnr.pngand about 3 hours later - http://imgur.com/EWrrZ4x.png ) It's hilarious to see the many "aww, how cute he looks" or equivalent from everybody that posts, even some that say "looks pretty good, especially for a newborn baby" (I still have no idea if people are just being polite or really believe it when they say stuff like that)... ...while both me and my partner still look at the baby and baby pics and go "ayup, we still think all newborn babies look a bit ugly, and ours is not really that much of an exception to that rule". (...)
It looks quite good for a newborn. When I was born, someone had the idea to take some pictures a few days later and I barely had improved from my granpa's first comment: "Wow, looks like a skinned rabbit". The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

A big congratulations and best wishes to you and your family Akita,
I've been back to the game for a few months after a coulple years break (read forums for a while after I went inactive) and noticed the lack of your presence the last couple months.
I understand now!
There is no describing the actual experience of the first 6 weeks of child "ownership" (actually being "owned" by your new child might work better).
Words fall short or miss the mark , and there is a lot of nodding of heads as if people understand, but, doing it is another thing. Some people get lucky and have a baby that sleeps more than two hours at a time or doesn't need 10 minutes of attention after feedings ... but not many.
Add the trepidation of living with a whole new set of challenges... immense (immense) knowledge that you better not fail too badly while flying nearly blind . A person needing to figure out which gages you need to conult and which gage does what (no matter how much you read keeping track of those unlabled gages at 4 am after having woken up at 2 am and 11 pm.
But with all of that, there comes a sense of fullness (for most at least, well for me at least as a father) of it's own unique and previiously unexperienced type. Something about beeing wired for "continuation of the speciece" also provides a pride and purpose from the role of protector/nurturer.
You're being hazed with sleep deprivation, suddenly forced to overcome previous squeemishnees of being barfed on and getting poo on your hands, have no choice other than thinking of more than yourself 24/7 virtually. Bombarded with a whole new set of mechanical challenges like how to get that diaper to fit without it leaking, how that baby carrier snaps into your car, how to do things one handed with the baby in the other.....
But, I can use all those words, and there will be nodding.. but until you feel it, you won't really get it. It hits hard but in a wonderful way, and there is a sense of "this is insane... I can't believe everyone with kids has done this"
Enjoy the "experience" though the word falls short. Keep enjoying it while they're young. Read a book to them before bed every single night for the next 10 years 3,650 of them... you'll treasure the time being that person reading the book and they'll cherish the time with you and the feeling of security they get from it, even if economic turmoil and other issues might come up along the way.. And the books can be enjoyable if you let yourself go there.
