Now that everybody seems to have got (almost) everything off there chest and the boards seem to have calmed down the question is "what happens now?"
I want to love Eve but my interest in lessening by the day. I don't think it's an attention span thing because I played AO for 2 years. The last 2 nights I've logged in and not been able to bring myself to actually do anything.
I seem to remember that CCP were working on a "road-map" for Eve. I wonder what happened to that? If I had some idea of the direction CCP plan to take Eve in perhaps I might be more inclined to play.
I'm pleased they've starting running events at last but even that doesn't inspire me.
Anybody else feeling like this or am I on my own here?

No, seriously, take a day or two off from the game. Just like everything else in life, sometimes you can have a little too much.
It is difficult for some people to figure out what they want to do and many times it doesnt match with their abilities yet. That's not a bad thing, but it does require a little patience and understanding to avoid feeling like you have to quit.
Try to set some goals. If there is absolutely nothing that interests you in the game, whether it's money, social interaction, killing pirates, then maybe you are wasting your time with Eve. I don't say that to be mean but games aren't going to appeal to ALL people for a long time. Try to find the things you enjoy and go do them, whether ingame or not.
Hope you find some enjoyment.

Go hit a bar, set up a party with some friends, have a BBQ or something. A day or two of that and EVE will be fun again ;)

I know how you feel as do others in my corp. Taking a week off could help or it could also lead to you never coming back. I wish I had a good suggestion for you but I don't. Maybe you will see something good in the next CSM chat. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Set up one of your level 4 skill to train to level 5, take a vacation, get a new game to play through, go camping, read a book, limit yourself to an hour of play a day for 2 weeks... something like that.
Or, make something to do. Thats the cool thing about eve, you dont HAVE to sit around and wait for content from the Devs. Set up your own events, like a frigate tourney or a race or something. Start a war with another corp, that'll give you something to do. Go guerilla on a giant corp like TTI and see how much you can tick em off before they catch you. Join a pirate corp and run around being an ass. As much as the rest of us hate those people, they are the main thing that make EVE fun for me. Targets I can get in a fight with, win or lose, whom I dont have to feel bad for attacking. :) +++

Undock in a capsule, choose a location 70 jumps away, set the autopilot to on and leave the computer for 3 hours.
Place bets on which happens first - podded, autopilot fails, or you arrive at your destination.
You need at least 2 friends to have the most fun though.

Mulu Xump, I kind of agree with you.. Right now, I'm aiming for a Megathron.. Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine all days.. Not that fun, but when I got the mega, I will be happy:) BUT, When I got my Megathron.. Then what?.. What more is there to aim for?.. There is no better ship than Battleships.. well titans maybe, but they donĘt exist yet I think.. I simply donĘt know what do to.. U donĘt just go mine when u donĘt need the money..
I think that the skill training in eve is bad, u can get every skill in game at ONE char, doesnĘt matter what rase u are, If I try compare EVE to other MMORPGs I've been playing, And lets compare it with Ultima Online - I played UO in 2 years - and I'm sure I wont be playing eve in 2 years.. Why ? - In UO could not have on Character which were everything, Fighter, Miner, (ranger), (Wizard), Industry-guy, etc etc.. BUT U CAN in eve.. And I think thatĘs the reason to why u became skilled very quick (well not that very quick) in eve.. Which make the playing time kinda short

That's what I'm doing right now. I'm Training just a Battleship skill while I'm taking a break. Perhaps you should try to step away from the game for two weeks and the return.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
I think I'll take a couple of weeks off and think about what I wanna do in Eve.
My problem is (I think). I never started out with a character concept and I've got sorta jumbled up in my skills so I'm not really that good at any one thing.
Praps I'll come back in a couple of weeks and start a new character with the help of the 35,000,000 i've accumulated.

I guess I'm missing something but if you got all this cash and uber shippage go out and use it. If your a good guy go on a MOO or SI hunt. Hire some friends if you don't have any to go with ya. If your bad go reek some havoc. What good are the Uber toys if you don't use em and abuse em? Go medival on the persons of your choice... Buy up a whole system and claim it for you? If collecting just for the sake of colleting is the goal it's gonna get real boring real fast...

Edited by: agrizla on 21/08/2003 01:54:38 Mulu - hope it works for you. I went on holiday for two weeks, came back and played for maybe 4 hours total in the next 3 days. To be quite honest I thought when I came back I'd be straight into the game with new enthusiasm - didn't happen for me mate. I have a little bit of enthusiasm now but bizarrely that's because I'm trying to keep earning cash to give it away doing events before my subs run out.
I'm fairly sure that's not the way I should feel about the game after 3 months
Edit - this has just occurred to me - when I was away from the game (and the internet) it was actually a relief. Every other time I've been "computerless" for ten days or so I've ended up wondering what online friends are doing and what is happening online. I didn't this time I wonder if something that a friend who was in beta said might be relevant? "Eve is far too much like real work"....

I see enough changes in EVE to make a diffrence, and KNOW that EVE is getting better FAST. You just gotta watch where their doing it.

Yeah, as people have already said, set one of your longer training skills off and take a break from the game.
Relax, EVE'll be here when you get back.

the process of MMOs one of two things happens over time in MMOs. Once you've gotten everything you could concievably want you eigther become a pker for the thrill (if you aren't yet) and/or you role play your character way past what anyone should really roleplay (for example in games like UO talking in old englisha nd walking around instead of running) Not sure what you'd do here, but I'm sure someone will come up with something.

okay, who spilled the beans?
I remember doing something like this towards the end of beta. If I recall, it was Onemanarmy (beta character) who got both of us well after 50 jumps. Couldn't go AFK though, the autopilot had a tendency to shut off spontaniously... sorta like now, so our bet was who could go the farthest
I got another jump in before Oneman got me so I won the bet. ---------------- Your mother was a hampster and your father smelled of elderberries. |

Taking 2 weeks off didn't work for me either... I came back to find there has been no excitement added, no new content. So I've played the game an hour or two a week since ----------------------------- You think Marco Polo said "Damn Mongolians were camping that cave entry into the next valley the entire day, you can't get friggin anywhere in the world with those damn griefer tribes all over the place" ? -Indigo Seqi

The problem I'm sure most people face is trying to play EVE in a linear fashion, like every other (MMO)RPG on the market.
There is always a set course of advancement, and bigger is better.
It doesn't work well like that in EVE. As the developers always used to say, EVE is a great big toolbox. Pick what you want to create, and be that.
Relying on the game itself to give you direction will soon see you AFK mining, getting a BS and then becoming disillusioned and leaving. And where, honestly, is the fun in that? --
