Without it being event driven do you think a large scale war would even be possible in EVE? Not a corp on corp war but a "Let's get it on", race vs race or empire vs empire war? I guess if you treated anything above .4 as the homeland you could not sustain combat. But could you enmasse hold .4 and below? Could you even gather up a couple hundred folks and invade another empire? I don't think it is possible the way Concord reacts right? I doubt you could even get people up for it but it sounds like fun. Think when an event "declares" a war we will be allowed to participate and roll into the opposing empires space and kicka$$? Or do you think Concord will still wield it's super powers and dumb down the game??

I think you would find it incredibly difficult to prolong without the funds. Being as cruisers and battleships cost so much in comparison.
Cheapest way to fight a war would be cruisers and frigates, which isn't really likely due to the ease of dispatching frigates in cruisers and battleships for the most part.
It would take a well built economy to do anything long-term, and sadly I don't think many people are interested in mining their buts off for long enough to afford it.
Those that get rich quick and off massive profits will be able to afford it.
Ohh yeah, and of course Lola would be right there ;)

People would cry, even if the invaders played by every rule that was implemented at the time.
If they fought their way through Concord, destroyed the sentry guns and held off all retaliations from the game mechanics...

I think frigates will play a much greater role when CCP eventually release Elite Frigates.
If there are any cruiser out there you'll find they are Blackbirds (EW), Moa's (more damage), and Caracals (torpdeoes hurt).

Actually as soon as two big 50 ship fleets warped into the same area the whole system node would crash.

I think even being event driven, it would still not be possible to have a large scale war in Eve.
Wars occur when people or Governments want them.
There are no Governments in Eve, so a war can occur only if the broad mass of people want to fight.
Most people I would say will be totally uninterested in the huge risks and tiny rewards of large scale PvP - let alone the organisational impossibility of large scale war, for there is no military and so no structure within which forces can be organised and marshalled.
Would you in the first place submit your corp to the military leadership of another corp? what happens if they perform badly, for whatever reasons?

Anyway wars aren't neccesrily one great battle,it could consist of many many little ones, some medium so maybe it would be posible in a way.
And lets hope that in the future that there will be less and less problems ,maybe the server will be upgraded or something,so that even big battles become possible.

Yea I guess it's kind of a pipe dream but it would be cool. But I think the game mechanics would break down with that load...
And who ever it was(don't remember) that said the small reward would not outweigh the cost so no one would be involved. I guess I am missing something but to me power and influence are as important as ISK to me. And they don't always come hand in hand. Are there really people working their butts off just to hoard cash and never lose anything or risk anything? If so they won't last long. My god the end game will be boring to them....

simple you do a system like the original Ultima Online's "Factions" people no matter the corp could join up with their races army and have freedom to attack the other races army freely without concord involved. It will esentialy just be a very big corp war. As for the lag I can imagine that getting bad, but I feel that size a group would not travel as one wave against another wave. would more likily just be mobs here and there in each other's space with lost of battles in the areas of 4 - 8 people. Just total war. (Lag would till suck, but not as much as like 120 people showing up at one place at one time.)

yes this is very possible.
It even happend already, though for only 1 day.
Fountain was taken over by 3 corps.
alot of people stood up against them resulting in a counter force of 15 battleships and numerous cruisers against an as great a force.
unfortunately the battle was to laggy to actually fight in.
Blackscreen loading for over 2 minutes.
in the meantime you could have been shot down easily.
so, it did happen and it will happen again. But they need to fix the loading times:)

all i have to say is, remember that event they had in Yulai several days back. Supposedly 100 or so ships in system.
i don't see large scale battles happening. would be nice, but with the way they implement things it's not going to happen, at least not some great last stand in 1 system.

Someone should drag up the screenshots of the large scale battles from the beta 5 corp events organised by [GM]Barrow.
Or even shots from the first convoy test events, they had a lot of ships battling at once as i recall. And that was before the beta was transferred to the big server clusters they use now.
