Is there such a thing as a good short range gun if so what is it pls. I NEED to know.

The autocannons are supposed to be short range guns, but they lack the tracking to be useful against even a cruiser at close range. If you want to go short range go with hybrid blasters.

Well in that case, if you want M weapons go with the 425mm autocannon, just be aware that you won't be able to hit frigates with it.

200-220mm autocannons are decent short range weapons. Depends if you want small projectile or medium or what.

Excuse me, but I frequently use my 425mm autocannons to shoot NPC 6K-10K frigates and never have any trouble.
Just sit at the spawn point and let them circle around you for about 4 seconds until they die.
Awesome noise too.

4x425 scouts. Jump into the midlle of em, and start the cuisinart. I track em just fine, just stop your ship, or leave it on approach.
Tear a marauder down in 10seconds.

Bah, why doesn't that work for me? My 425's miss more than half the time if I let frigates orbit me, even with motion prediction lvl 4 and a tracking module in a low slot.

Use optical trackers.
I can hit frigates just fine using two of them on my scorp with 4 800mm arties.
650 scouts work VERY well with optical trackers.

425mm's can do a range of damage between 30 and 120 every 2 seconds.
Multiply that by four and you have some serious close-range firepower against NPC's.
I don't know if I'd try it against Maurauders though - I thought they did outrageous damage up close?
On a Moa you can have 3 dmg mods and 1 tracking enhancer combined with a good tracking cpu in a med slot.
Improves things a LOT.
By the way, I was using 425mm's when I lost my Blackbird - you're screwed if a pirate webifies you and keeps you at 7km. 425mm's miss about 80% of the time at that range and don't hit for much when they do.

Webs are the one reason I don't usually use close range weapons, you get webbed once and you're basically screwed.

I agree, the 425 is the way to go for Med sized short range projectiles. Throw in rapid fire and a few Gyro stabilizers and you get an insane ROF.
I also agree that short range vs. pirate cruisers = daft, because they'll web you, warp jam you, then pick you to death. Id get some 650 artillery, scouts if you can afford em, and keep your range up at around 15km.

If you're absolutely out of your mind, load up on 425s with 5 of your cruiser friends and swarm a battleship from close enough to **** on the hull. I'd also recommend torpedoes, shield hardeners/boosters, and the last rites.

Would this wortk on a Blackbird?
3 x 425mm's, 1 x heavy missile launcher, 3 types of tac shield, 1 acid-ld medium capacitor battery, MWD, 7.5km range warp-jammer, and 2 cap relays.
Get 5 of your friends to do this with their Blackbirds.
MWD to extreme close-range, firing the cruises/torps while you do so, then set off the 425mm's.
Warp-jam him and have fun dying or killing.

2 x5s + 3 Malkuth Incursions + 3 Cruise Missiles (2 Cataclysms & 1 Wrath) + 3 650mm Scouts and your day is ended.

3x 250mm scouts works very well on the Rifter. The rest is really up to you, but gyros in lows and a sheild booster + optional module is your best bet I think.

These are easy to get.

Where do I obtain Scouts? I've heard of them before but the highest calibre run I've run into is 200mm AutoCannons.

Obtain scouts either by going to the trade channel (full of spam...no actual 'trading' takes place there, but most things are for sale)or going out to some long forgotten 0.0 space and hunting there. Anything over 30k pirate will potentially drop them, but maybe only every 125 pirates or so.
