After the 1165 patch I can no longer start eve. I get the splash screen and then the CCP blue framework and then nothing. I have done a full virus scan, reinstalled EVE using the downloaded full 1165 install and run dxdiag with no problems reported.
I am using an ATI 9700pro with 3.5 drivers.
I am getting a .dmp file created when the game crashes.
I have sent all this to support but I thought it might be worth asking here as well.
Any ideas ??
Also if somewone could tell me what i could use to open the dmp file so that is makes some sense (ie not notepad) I would be greatfull, as I might be able to work it out for my self.
Thanks

This is exactly my issue, CTD before the EULA.
I don't belive I dl'd anything from windows update, what were the patches you installed from Microsoft ??
As for sound, SB live 5.1, I can hear the sound you get during the login so I think this is ok.
I had a run through the log server last night and you can see the client load all its resources and even check that the server is up and OK before it finaly attempts to display the login dialog and crashes.

I installed a security fix for DAC and the latest IE rollup fix pack. After the reboot I crash before the EULA just like you.

by DAC do you mean MDAC ie Microsoft data access components ?
If so this looks like a possible issue as these files are involved hevily with the way in which Windows handles connectionsd to data sources eg SQL.
Have you been able to identify the Q number under add remove programs for that package ?

I installed: Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (823718) August 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (822925)
And since have been unable to start Eve. It loads the EULA window and, before any text or buttons are displayed, locks up hard and uses 100% CPU. I can only kill it with "End Task" in task manager or by right-clicking on the taskbar icon and forcing it to die.
This, after installing the latest nVidia driver to find that the game (when it was working then) pauses frequently for no apparent reason. Wee. I've also recently updated to DirectX 9.0b, but that was after the death of EVE, IIRC, so I don't believe that has anything to do with it. But then, what do the two security patches have anything to do with? -- "Never use a sledgehammer to drive a thumb tack." |

Ditto. Downloaded the windows service pack update and EVE closes right after the splash screen is show.
Bloody typical Mickeysoft - introduce a patch that causes a featured DirectX game to fail.

Having the same problem...
Installed Microsoft Windows Updates (823718 & 822925), restarted my machine and now Eve crashes right after the splash screen...it tries to load up the EULA but never quite gets there and just shuts down.
Yes, I have tried reinstalling Eve...adding more fun to the situation the retail release version of Eve starts up no problem.

I too had this problem, it's to do with windows update patch: August 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (822925). To fix this problem simply go to add/remove programs and remove the internet explorer patch with the number above. i.e. 822925. I found this out last night. I am sorry for not posting the fix earlier. There is no need to do a rollback. I have already submitted a bug report to CCP.
Oh and yes this is pasted from my replies to other threads- I'm just lazy :).

I'm suffering the same problem. Unfortunately neither of those updates are listed, so I can't uninstall them.
Day 3 of not being able to log in. This is getting very old, very quickly.

Yes, I've been a long supporter of Eve and I may quit too, because of the non-stop hardware issues. I've never played a more beautiful, buggy, crashing game ever. I hope for the best and I'll lurk around but I may cancel for awhile. It's just too much of a headache...

Set sound=0 in prefs.ini for a quick fix. See the sticky thread for more details.
