I have been wondering just how much more effective Dual pulse are over Gatling. Gatling has fewer requirements a faster ROF less energy useage but lacks the dmg bounus of the dual. Test was taken in a Crusader mounted with 4 of each and most turret skills at lvl 4.
Gatling pulse-10 shots-total dmg=220.9-fired every 1.5sec-total fire time=3.75 sec- DPS total=58.9- dps per gun=14.73-average dmg per shot=22-energy used per shot=0.91-total energy used=9.1-energy consumption per sec=2.43-fitting cost=4cpu,5pw each (Without skills)-Damage per Energy=6.07(Winner)
Dual Pulse-10 shots-total dmg=295.9-fired every 1.9sec-total fire time=4.75- dps total=62.3- dps per gun=15.58-average dmg per shot=29.6-energy used per shot=1.33total energy used=13.3-energy consumption per sec=2.8-fitting cost=8cpu,6pw each (Without skills)-Damage per energy=5.56(Almost winner)
With only a marginal difference between the both I would say the gatling is the overall Victor here. With more Damage for each point of energy expelled and a way better tracking (Dual's hit 1 out of every 8 shot while MWD is active, while Gatling seemed almost uneffected) it is the weapon of choice.
Conclusion; If constant damage is your goal then gatlings will work just fine as you sacrifice the dizzying highs but also the abismal lows. Tackle away everyone

What he said. You will miss the enemy way too often. low optimal with almost no falloff is killing these guns.

Edited by: wost on 06/01/2006 12:43:39 Well if you use your MWD to orbit the target around 2.5km in an inty ... you're an idiot.. go orbit the target on " impuls " power and just shoot .. if you have good skill ( not uber skillz ) you will hit every time and totally destroy your target with dual light pulse .. the least you need inty lvl4 ..

my experience: gatling pulses > any other guns on crusader.
And with scorch ammo you get 9km optimal . I'd use dl. pulses but they use far too much cpu. And beams are joke, it is easier to fit 280mm artys on claw than dl. beams on crusader, as you need mapc anyway, but cpu will screw you again.

Interesting. Gotta look into scorch.
