I've newly gotten a hold of a caracal, and I'm working on fitting it out (training the skills needed for different modules ect.) But I'm getting tired of mining and doing missions for a living, so I ask you this: What kind of ships can a caracal take out, both in PvP and PvE. Also, how high NPC bounties can I cash in with it?
Thanks

imo the caracal is not that great for pvp unless u really have good skills and no how to pilot it. If u want an extremely good crusier to pvp with it is best to get a thorax. Bit for pve a caracal is ok i guess.

now after the patch you might be able to kill the occasional npc battleship.. the thorax can anyways. for pvp i'd go for 5x assault launchers, web, scrambler,Afterburner, and whatever and then a 1600plate and a repper. for PVE... afterburner and missiles... you can do all missions up to lvl3 in a caracal.

The Caracal is excellent for PvE - You can easily do Lv2 missions and probably most Lv3 with a solid setup and good skills...
Lv2 = 2 Heavy and 3 Assault (Target Painter if you have space) Lv3 = 3-4 Heavy and 1-2 Assault, 2-3 Hardeners Always = Medium Shield Booster, 10Mn AfterBurner, Ballistic Control System
This is only advice and you should be careful until you seen enough combat to have your own opinion...

Taking out 100K bounty NPCs with a caracal is very doable, as long as they don't have many friends with them *grins* -- ** There are some men that things should not come to know ** |

Caracal is good terror weapon when used to snipe. Pack couple of sensor boosters and get 100km away. Then chase ppl around system since no cruiser wants to engage you because of your insane range. --------

So I should get some sensor boosters. Got it.
Note that I've barely got anything in my ship, as I've only played for 2.5 weeks or so, and don't really have the skills needed for good modules yet.

Also, I've noticed that none of you have mentioned shield hardeners or amps. Should I not focus on those at all?

ok so from my view, you should still be in your frig or destroyer with 2.5 weeks in the game :-)
but more on the topic, heavy launchers and range are your friends. you can also try assault launcher until you have your guided missile precicion skill trained to at least level 3.
for mids, 1 options, tank and ecm. I preffer a semi-passive tank (no booster, but active hardeners). looks like: ab, web, invul field x2, large t2 shield extender.
lows: pds x 2, or pds and bcu, or shield power relay and bcu :-)
for the ecm setup, fit 3 jammers (multispec for PvP, rat specific for PvE) in place of the invuls and extender (or keed the extender). this has NO tank so once your jammers fail, run. Also I don't know if that all fits ;-) did not use a cara post RMR.
even with the HP boost, caracal has still weak defenses (weak capacitor remained).
for the skills: missile skills, all non missile specific to at least 3, missile specific as much as you like. engineering all to 4 at least :-), navigation skills (ab speed and cap consumption). ------------------------------ Removed due to offensive content - Laqum
I realy liked my signature. Oh well ... |

Ok, thanks for the advice.
And I was planning on buying a destroyer, but then I saw one get blown up in .5 space by a bunch of rats.....I....uh....Changed my mind Why not buy a cruiser if you can afford one, right?

Edited by: Shaemell Buttleson on 06/01/2006 13:13:08 Before the RMR patch I did a level 4 mission in a Caracal. It was just 1 spawn of about 6 or 7 cruisers and 1 low bounty BS. I just had them chase me and run into my heavy missiles. I dont think they did more than 100hp damage in the whole mission by keeping them over 70km from me.
They would have torn me a new one though if I had tried to do it any closer i think.
