Any chance that we can get something arranged for this?
I'm not asking for a full api, where you can request market data. Just something similar to what we have (when it's not broken by cache level changes) with EMDR.
A constant stream of market data, ideally weighted by activity, across all of new Eden, which you can hook up to and process.
If this is provided, then it gives the community something it obviously wants, without the nebulous "It's against the EULA, but we won't go after anyone for it" of market data cache scraping.
Perfect data, on request, would be an issue. This style wouldn't.

Seconded!
Market data is basic and essential. Every market app out there relies on this data and it's inexcusable that to get it developers need to go to EULA grey areas that put them in the same dirty corner as botters. As a developer, I respectfully insist on CCP providing such a service/API. |

This needs to happen. In-game tools are entirely insufficient for the analysis of wide swaths of a market. Everyone should have access to the same data in as generalized a format as possible. It is impossible to believe that a civilization as advanced as New Eden wouldn't have galaxy-wide market aggregation. Provide us with the data, and we will build the tools. |

I wouldn't mind even if it was delayed 24 hours to be honest. I just want ballpark figures. I can go double-check the market for significant movements myself in game if I need to. So I +1 this as well. |

I wish you all good luck with your request. I will be extremely surprised if you even get a dev post in this thread. Personally I'm deeply disappointed with CCP, regarding their support to 3rd party devs. |

Agree entirely with the OP and replies so far.
It would be nice to get an official market feed (or a batch of market data published every downtime) but I personally can't see it happening any time soon.

I think the proposed api feed is an elegant and simple solution, but whether you like it or not, you have to admit something has to be done.
Because 99% of all planing and calculating (which this being eve is at least 50% of the common gameplay) relies, fully or partially, on the practical and fast access to eve single most important data, the worth/price of stuff. You cant do serious industry without calculating your margin and whoever proposes to do this via the ingame market, item for item cant be serious. You cant do fitting design without accessible module price data on reasonable scale (few different fits for some ships in a gang) or you will have to look up dozens of items on the market.

I didn't know there were 3rd party devs on CSM, as Golden Gnu said.
I visit everyday EVE Technology Lab. I can't remember Two step, Trebor, Mynnna or Ali Aras post in this forum (ok, I don't visit every single thread). I think that's why people feel CSM lacks of 3rd party devs.

Quantity has a quality all its own I guess... :P
Those 2 pages of my posts only count the posts on the new forums. I was also active on the old forums as well. You might also see the posts I made on the EDK killboard forum, where I fixed a couple of major bugs, or check out the presentation I did at the DevTrack at Fanfest 2 years ago.
One of the extremely frustrating things about EVE's 3rd party devs is that you guys don't generally do *any* reaching out to the CSM at all (in my experience). Did any of you get in touch with any of the current CSM members about this request? When you are on the CSM, it isn't easy to visit each and ever subforum all the time, and we rely on players pointing us to major issues. Otherwise, you might get lucky, but you are far more likely to just not be heard. CSM 7 Secretary CSM 6 Alternate Delegate @two_step_eve on Twitter My Blog

If this happens then trading in game would probably collapse given the nature of accuracy would result in market crashes. Given today we all rely on IGB and cache scraping it still adds a buffer that spaces out trades to in a way "luck".
If it were to be released 1hr delay then that would work IMHO as getting the scrapping can give a bit of an edge but also means players just can't second trade as much as an hourly latency ? |

I fully agree that 'perfect' market data, on demand, would be a significant issue. I cover that in the blog post in my request I'd written that, then posted this later.
Short version: Add caching. so the very first person to request an item's price, in a region, gets the up to date value. Everyone else, for the next hour, gets the same data. It would emulate the effect we get with cache scraping now.
The EMDR style firehose of market data would also be good, as players would have no control over what's coming out of it. It's perfect, at the time it's published, but without control, there's no problem. Steve Ronuken for CSM 9!-á I'm starting early :) Handy tools and an SDE conversion Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |
