An elderly Minmatar woman, locked in a bureaucratic struggle with Tribal authorities, has astounded medical experts by refusing to die, despite her advanced age of well over a century.
The woman, giving her name as "Stjyerna", claims that Tribal authorities have continually refused to grant her full citizenship, claiming that her ambiguous genetic makeup means no Tribe has a claim on her.
"They say their tests show I am apparently 1/8th Sebiestor, 1/8th Brutor, 1/8th Vherokior, 1/8th Krusual, 1/8th Thukker, 1/8th Nefantar, 1/8th Starkmanir and 1/8th what they call 'miscellaneous, probably Ealurian', and because of this, no tribe has a greater claim than any other, meaning I can't be adopted into a tribe. My daughter, because she's 9/16ths Sebiestor, she got accepted by the Tribe. I named her Vackra Oseri+¦sa, after her father. It's Sebiestor for 'handsome rogue', or so I'm told."
Stjyerna has been arguing with Tribal authorities for decades, and despite her age, is showing no signs of slowing down in her battle against bureaucracy.
"Even if she can't have a tribe, she's 7/8ths Minmatar, and she doesn't give up, the Republic should grant her citizenship", said one passer by, responding to Gutter Press questioning. "Bureaucracy! something we should never have imported from the Gallente!", said another passer-by.
Meanwhile, other returning Minmatar face trouble integrating into wider society.
"I used to drive a grass-cutter machine, for sportball pitches and parks, in Kor-Azor", said one man. "Now, they say I can't get a job better than picking litter off the grass, because those jobs are 'reserved' for Tribe members, and I don't have a Tribe yet".
"The Elders said I would be free, but they never said anything about having to argue with bureaucrats to get a house", said one woman. "I've been on this waiting list for months!"
"It's not as bad as it sounds, the returnees need to be placed in the Tribe that they belong to", said an official. "When claims are complicated, the procedures we have to follow take time." "It does a returnee no good, to be placed in the wrong Tribe", said another official. "The difficulty in accepting their Minmatar heritage is unnecessarily increased, and can lead them to dark paths, such as the Cartel."
As confidence in Shakor's dynamic government grows, these difficulties will be overcome, and returnees will be able to appreciate their Minmatar heritage. |
