Is it possable to run eve spaned accross multiple monitors? thus giving you more space to place your windows.

There is a link in the EVE forums under EVE Technology. From what I can see - running eve across two (or more) monitors doesn't (yet) work.

I run eve mirrored on 2 monitors, as for spanning the game won't allow it 400x120@24000 bytes max please. -Capsicum |

Eve was shown on the Matrox home page for almost 2 years, It has and is able to run more than 1 monitor. 3 works better but if you know how it works fine on 2

Edited by: Maestro Ulv on 06/01/2006 16:20:38 Nothing complicated im afraid.
One monitor in each port on the gfx card and rebooted. EVE gave me the option to run at different resolutions including the widescreen spanned options in windows and full screen.
Card is Nvidia 4 plat golden sample with extra cooling to compensate for heat. Its not even a new card. Runs nice and smooth pre rmr, stil a little iffy post rmr though.
Honestly don't know why people have issues doing this, as I say its just plug in, reboot and it works. For me at least.
Hope ya get it to work
*after edit* Should add that once rebooted you do the normal settings for the card and tell it to span your desktop across both monitors.

Spanning is a driver issue from the graphics card you got (at least I know that for sure for nVidia-Cards). Set it up in the driver settings, and when windows itself recognises it as *one* screen with a damn wide resolution EVE will work that way as well.
You'll need two monitors running the same resolution to make spanning possible, it will not work when one screen can only run 1024*768 and the other runs at 1600*1200 or so.

There are some problems with spanning. If you span across two monitors, the status 'wheel' that shows shield, armour etc is split down the middle. This wouldn't be so much of a problem with 3 monitors though.
With some fiddling, you can run two clients in windowed mode so they each get their own monitor. I always find that one client always ends up with a strange selection of resolutions when I do this, and it ends up being a bit small. It's ok if you only haul or mine with your second acct though.
IF you use Dual view, which I do usually, there are some other issues. You can't 'throw' the Eve client to the second monitor like you can other apps. Also, if even one column of pixels touches the second monitor, it slows it down to a hideously laggy unplayable piece of crap.
I really wish you could undock some of the game windows and arrange them on the second screen. It would be awesome to have an uncluttered main screen with the overview and the view of space only, and all your chat windows, market screens etc. shifted to the second monitor.

now that in combination with the "status wheel" being centered on the "primary" screen would be awesome

Agreed this is a problem, the only one IMO. Although its not a massive issue, the split still shows more than enough detail on both sides to get an idea if your about to pop or need to tank. Just remember if the red is on the left monitor it may be time to turn that serp armour rep on
