While going through this months CSM(horrible to read, where is pann's iron fist keeping them all in line? ), I noticed a few words were mentioned on Deep Core Mining, a new, more dangerous type of mining that will require special ships and equipment. Does anyone have more info/speculation on what this is? I've been a miner for a little shile now but its getting a bit repetitive This sounds like it could provide me with a nice challenge so any info?

AFAIK they're introducing a new, mineral and/ore ore more valuable than megacyte and it will require some skills to be able to mine it. (Or something like that. I dunno

Hmm, im thinking this new ore types could be a prerequisite for for tech 2 manufacture? That could be very interesting. Perhaps we will even see mining or comets at last
Any more info from anyone? If were lucky, Pann might chip in

From my limited understanding Deep Core mining will be a new method of mining .. that will be more involved (ie no set mining lasers on and leave the room and come back to a full load). But aside from this im not sure excatly that means. I dont know if it will be new ore or just diff amounts of ore. It is supposed to help out the solo miner looking for something a little bit more. There was some chatter about it by Tomb or someone .. I will try to find the URL i read it on and post it. (have to wait till im home) [ think i was evegate.net .. could be wrong]

Isn't this all to do with scavenging all that floating debris?
The danger comes from the fact that most debris is found at pirate spawns - that would prevent any afk mining.
There are s'posed to be specialised drones which can only be used to "scavenge" from the debris.
Much like the process Joshua Calvert used to gain access to that Laymil circuit board........

Wretch,
Yeah, but lots of debris is found near jumpgates.
Gatehuggers can mine while they wait!

Not sure how the scavenging drones work, tbh.
Perhaps the debris of space stations etc holds fragments of data that can be used to create/reverse engineer new and unique products?

Well, debris = salvage, not mining
Take a peek on Eve-db, and look for the ore type Mercosit :)

Deep core mining, what it is.
CCP has taken the ROM from the 1980's arcade game classic 'Dig Dug', and incorporated it into the game.
A corp member will fly you to your asteroid of choice. You will eject from his ship and land on the asteroid.
Once you have done this, the Eve-client changes to become the Dig Dug game. You use W-A-S-D to move around, and the ENTER key to blow up the monsters.
The farter/deeper you dig, the more of Super-Unobtainium is deposited into your waiting corp members ship.

... There's a thread covering this deep core mining thing in wee bit more detail in the Patch Review section.

Deep core mining is indeed more involved than current mining. I believe you active special mining lasers, then are subjected to a rigorous game of Chess with Deep Blue the computer for many hours. Once you checkmate Deep Blue you will get one load of the new ore which you could then spam on the trade channel and sell for a rediculous amount just because it's something new.

To me, the 'deep core' sounds like it's mining something big... anyone think it might involve moons or planets? |

DCM involves mining normal asteroids for rare ore buried within it.
Mining it is hazardous with a chance for a 5k radius explosion every x time period.
It will require special equipment to mine and the skill is rank 6 with mining 5 as a pre-req. The DCM skill reduces the chance of these explosions by 5% per level.
This is a setup to tech 2 manufacturing which will require some of this rare ore.
