Yeah, another lag post. But I'm not here to say "OMG I'm so lagged I can't do anything".
I lived in Oursulaert from Oct to Dec when local was well under 200 during non-peak times. However, everytime it neared 250 I was forced to log off due to inabilities to dock, undock, speak to agents, activate modules, etc. So, everyday, I knew at 3pm Eastern it was time to logoff Eve for the next 6 hours. Weekend playing was out of the question. I simply played another game during these peak times.
After the RMR patch was applied, I noticed no lag with local hitting 350 in Oursulaert. So, obviously the RMR patch worked. However, I think once people realized the systems could handle more, they started doing more ... overloading the systems once again.
So, my thinking is.. Unless something drastic is done, the player base will always find a way to nullify any minor improvements made to reduce lag.
Code? Obviously some optimizations were introduced with RMR, but users were quick to take full advantage of them.
Hardware? I hope CCP has run the numbers properly in anticipation of playerbase growth (and them doing things like copying bms) on the new server hardware.
Or maybe things will calm down once some of the holiday new players leave. (And I say that as a Good Thing)
What are your thoughts on the matter? No whining in my thread, please.

an idea to reduce it would be to have all shuttles and rookie ships with no one in it should self destruct automaticaly

Edited by: Sable Schroedinger on 08/01/2006 19:47:12 clean up scripts seem to be the key. Be they empty ships, AFK players, Mining Can's, whatever.
Leaving things around for long periods may help with certain obscure things, but the damage it does to the whole seems to outweigh the benefit to the few, imo.

I flew around to some asteroid belts in the Citadel system last night, and each belt I hit had around 50 or more secured cans floating around with no Miners to be seen. Made me kind of sad.
