Could it be possible to make a turret version of the defender missile system for ships that dont have launcher points? It would seem logical that a point defense system involving rapid-firing autocannons or pin-point lasers would compliment an anti-missile missile system.
I think a point defense module would be a good addition. Of course it would have much less range than the defender (say 5k-10k?), but its ROF would allow it to take down more missiles than a defender.
Of course that could pose some problems with Torpedoes, but then again, they are so slow that 1 defender launcher can usually take down 3 at range.
So CCP give us more anti-missile defense. Add in CIWS modules.

I see this as a possibility. Make it as slow to repeat fire was defenders on e.g. assault launcher.

Not really, if defender missiles don't add lag to the system, then a point defense gun wouldn't either.
This would make it fair to all those ships without a launcher slot to have an option for anti-missile defense.

I totally agree to this. I suprisingly made a similar proposal of implementing a device to counter missiles when no defendes are available, aside from the smartbomb, please read the corresponding thread.

Another pretty decent anti missile idea. Rapid firing auto tracking gatling guns with low accuracy are commonplace for missile defense. You'd think a bunch of races that can think up all this technology would have thought of this by now :P
Only drawback would be massive overheating (thus, can only shoot bursts and requires a long cooldown period) and severe ammo shortage (shoots so rapid that you need massive amounts of ammo to keep it going for a while).

Then tested for balance to ensure that turret rates of fire, hardwiring implant availability, and some other factors not thought of are inline between missle and turret based systems.
