How can you crash to desktop before you've even left your desktop?

I had this happen once.
I think it is related to sound. The EVE client is MAJORLY buggede, in sound this version. _________________________ Trolling is bad. Please dont do it. -rei |

You can get rid of the annoying EULA by adding "dontWantDisclaimer=1" (mind the caps) to the prefs.ini --- soonÖ |

The sound for the login screen does start so I would say that it is not related to that, also I belive that the crash is related to rendering the 3D logo on the login screen.
The point is that people are having the game stop working after using windows update...unforunatly we have yet to find out which 'patch' from MS is causing the issue.

eh what? I'm patched out the wazoo (ow!) and no crashes for me (other than the occasional node eating itself). I use windows update all the time (like a nervous tick. New patches? New patches? New patches???).
I will check to see what precisely i have and don't have when i get home, hopefully that'll shed some light on things.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

I used System Restore on Windows XP to jump back to before I applied the latest patches, I was getting CTD on one client if I had 2 running.
After restoring to a setting before the latest patch bonanza I again have no problems.

Check your video drivers are up to date with relations to the Windows patch. I applied the w2k sp4 to my machine a couple of weeks back and the thing wouldn't boot because the video card kept crashing. Had to rollback from safe mode, update my nVidia drivers and then apply SP4 to get it to work, and the nVidia Control Panel stuff still won't work at all, so I can't change to dual monitors etc atm. When I want the 2nd monitor as I probably will at some point I'll get round to sorting that out too.
