I might just be missing something here but as an almost completely new player I find it difficult to discover places to get decent missions from.
I'm a gallente with just an imicus ship but I have skills for the Exequror class vessel and am looking to make some money in a respectable amount of time through missions.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried searching for agents?
Gallente federation is going to be your highest faction, along with your newbie corp. If you right click the agent you have been using you will see an info screen that includes the icon for that agents corp. If you click that icon it will bring up an info screen that describes that corporation. One of the tabs is an agent listing. You can expand that tab to find agents available to you by division. Also on that info screen is an icon for Gallente Federation. You can click that to get a listing of all corps in the federation.
All this can also be found using people and places.
Your best bet is to look at agents you want to work toward, then work for lower agents in that same corp/division.

From what I have heard the Federation Navy is one of the best corps to run missions for. The rewards later on are (theoretically) very nice and include several ships. Open your Char Sheet, go to ôstandingsö and look up the Navy. It should be on your ôLiked Byö list by default. Click on it to bring up the Navy Info screen. One tab says ôagentsö and will list the various sections, under which are lists of Available and Not Available agents. If you have the skills to fly a Cruiser you may want to start looking into LVL 2 agents. Go into the lists, and first see if any lvl 2 agents are available to you and ignore Quality. A -20 lvl 2 is better for you than a +20 lvl 1. I tested this, itÆs true.
If there are no lvl 2Æs available to you, go down the Not Available lists and show info for the low quality lvl 2 agents. One of the info sections will tell you what Standing you must be at to have access to this agent (referring to the standing on the ôLiked Byö list in your char-sheet). Figure out which lvl 2 requires the least standing, and run lvl 1 missions for them until you reach it. With the lvl 1 agents you should pay attention to quality, as it will effect your standing gain.
This will get you a lvl 2 agent in the least amount of time, and then your financial and standing gains will accelerate pretty quickly. Mind you, this can be done with any NPC corp à IÆve just heard the Navy is one of the better ones to do. Hope this helps.

Apparently I'm not as observant as I thought seeing as I completely missed the agent listing sections.
Thank you both very much!

One downside to gall navy is you get stuck with quality 0 or less at lv3. I think theres only one lv3 agent over q:0 and thats in the middle of nowhere, ie surrounded by 0.0 space.

N00b question from me!
WHAT is the significance of the level of an agent please?
Using "Connections" and "Diplomacy " skill training (both at level 4 and climbing! ) I've cultivated around about 55 agents sofar - however, what does "-16"or "16" actually mean?
Any help with this would be appreciated - thanx in advance (and to the info recd from browsing the above already!!)
Best wishes!

Agents just confuse me.
For example: I'm a member of the NPC corporation Center for Advanced Studies (CAS)based in Essence region. I use the tutorial agent and he shortly sends me off to a another agent in another region nearby. This lvl 1 agent is in Administration and I get him up to a standing of +5.5 but the missions are mostly courier with the few pirate hunting missions all happening in the exact same deadspace area killing the same pirates over and over.
The ONLY lvl 2 agents in CAS are 2 regions away (Placid) in 0.5 space with all the missions (8 so far) occurring in 0.1-0.3 space. That's a huge jump from 0.7-0.9 space missions.
If I'm to continue to build my standing with CAS, am I stuck then in low security space just 2 weeks out from starting this game or should I look at another corporation within Gallente Federation? I'm so confused.

agent rating influences the payout and amount of lp you get from the agent, plus the rating with the main corp. At your ship level, I may suggest Villore, the senate beureu station...there is a lev 1 with 0 rating, work for him enough you get a lev 1 with 8 rating, easy missions, semi decent mix of courier and kill missions. Get into a Tristan when you can, the missiles are worth it on the easy npc missions. You can use a shuttle for the small volume shipping missions too...
