I've been playing around with ninja mining gas sites in wormholes. I've only played in C3's and lower though =( Personally it's been getting so boring though. I'm in and out so quickly it can hardly be called a risk and that's no fun. If i wanted safe mining i'd join a null alliance and chew on rocks >:(
I've heard the gas sites in c5's and c6's are pretty big and profitable. I already figure they are more heavily occupied which would keep me more focused. My main question would be, could i clear these gas sites solo in a tengu initially of spawns? |

The good ones, no. Need at least three RR Tengus, I think. Or two Logis and some dps. . |

The gas sites you're looking for in c5 and c6 space are the Vitals and Instrumentals. If you bring less than 4 Tengus you will probably burn. |

The rats in the high end C5/6 ladars do upwards of 1800dps (as in the combined dps from all of them is over 1800) and neut for 60 cap/s on one site and 72 cap/s on the other only one of the sites scram but its pretty easy to get killed before you can warp off from the damage/alpha output on that site - one of our guys used to kite the neuting with a RR tengu pair but thats certainly not for the faint of heart. You can probably get away with 3 tengus to clear the rats but 4 would be more comfortable.
They can potentially be quite profitable but the level of risk from other players will be extremely varied - hit them at the right time of day on an out the way C5 and you'd be almost completely safe, hit them at the wrong time of day and/or in the wrong person backyard and they'd be quite unsafe. |

Regardless, you don't need to clear them to 'ninja' some of the gas. |

This is true. Most gas sites can be harvested with Sleepers on grid. You just need to be positioned correctly and I have no intention of telling you how to do that MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAA |

Me and a friend were clearing Instrumental's and Vital's in 3x T2 fit RR Tengu's. There is a little bit of risk however if the sleepers decide to put neuts on one tengu and DPS on another before you get the first battleship down.
However I would advise against using Tengu's unless you secure the hole and have enough scouts, ninja mining with a good number of alts will make you a lot of isk if you are the only one there. |

Gas mining is pretty damn safe, and will likely stay that way unless CCP makes those sites scannable with the ship sensors like they have done for the mining sites. Unless the occupants of the hole already have the gas sites scanned down, then seeing probes gives you way more than enough time to get somewhere safe before anything starts exploding.
Going for the higher classes will probably prove more risky due to more PvP orentated players tending to live there. Wether or not this balances out with the increased reward you'll have to discover for yourself. Hopefully not in the form of losing a Tengu. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |

The Sleeper spawns always warp to 0. You can see where by enabling the scanner overlay.
On some sites, the worthwhile gas clouds are large enough that you can just move to the far side of the cloud and be far enough away from Sleepers that they don't attack you. I haven't tested what the attack distance is, but you can get >90km on Barren sites (frigates), and >150km on Vital sites (battleships), and that seems to be enough.
Just create a bookmark at your location, and you're good to warp in and out for as many trips as it takes (or until you get bored).
This can also be hilarious if someone warps to 0 at the gas site trying to hunt you down.

You can count on the occupants having BMed the site already, even if they don't intend to mine them.
However it's still pretty safe if you know what you're doing, since overcoming the two built-in stabs is a problem. When I see a Venture in our system I usually send him a missile-shaped "you are not welcome here" message, that tends to get the point across even if they warp away due to the stabs. |

When we find a rich connecting C5/C6, we usually work something like this:
* Phase one: Scout 'em out and bookmark them. * Phase two: Ninja-mine each for 18 minutes (except sites with sentries). There are sometimes gas sites we can totally finish with enough Ventures with Gas Miner 2s... * Phase three: if we left behind valuable gas, reship to destroy the Sleepers. We have a "unique" fleet composition that works exceptionally well, but I don't feel like sharing right now :) Salvage and enjoy the nice loot for the 4x battleship spawns. * Phase four: Return in Ventures to finish mining.
With 5-6 people online (plus alts), we can usually strip a gas-rich wormhole of all its valuable gas in less than an hour, roll the hole, and move on to the next looking for pew, PvE, or more gas (priorities in that order). For all of you wondering why all your gas sites disappeared overnight, now you know. :) |
