Edited by: Ramulack on 10/01/2006 00:48:20 using http://www.eve-offline.net/ore.dxd and in game market tool i tried to figure out how selling refined ore gives better income as opposed to non-refined ore.
I was woundering if i possibly was missing something because the math doesnt work out with refined ore selling more.
I used scordite as an example:
regular scordit takes 333 units to refine, so for non refined ore:
333 x 11 = 3663 isk.(best resonable - possible price, or it was last time i played before my long break from the game)
then refined,
333 yeilds, according to the source mentioned earlier: 833 trit, 416 pyre.
so, using market prices in my region,
833 x 1.6 = 1332.8 (trit) 416 x 4.3 = 1788.8 (pyrite)
3121.6
and this is assuming i have refine skills + good standing.
is there something i am missing? i remember in the past being told that once i aquire better refine skills it becomes more profitable.
or did i miss something?

6-9 months back it was very profitable, trit was selling at 2.50isk per unit but then the market got stable and its usually better to sell the ore now. Give it time, the market will probably change within the next few months.

There's nothing wrong with your math or assumptions....
It's just that I wouldn't currently be buying Scordite for more than 8 off the open market and 9 from buddies...
Prices fluctuate - and post-RMR when the NPC buy orders have gone, they are now truly in the hands of the players.

Ah.
so 333 x 8 being 2664 it would in fact be more profitable after all refining.
I didnt know the price had dropped so.

Of course, it depends on what your refine skills are. There is refinery, refinery efficiency, then ore specialisiation to learn. Also need to check the refinery you are using. They all have different percentage ratings which affects how much minerals you get when the ore is is refined.

Also, you're not taking into account "standing" when you refine.
If you're standing is high with the corp who owns the station the "we take" portion drops considerably.
Using the Eve-geek calculator, with their, somewhat, accurage mineral prices, i get 333 scord to equal
2,595.00 with no skills in refining, and 0 standing, brand new player, which is 7.79 ISK/unit. for the ore if it's been refined.
2,703.26 ISK ISK with lvl 4 refining and a 1.0 standing (say, 1-2 month old player).l Making the ore worth 8.12 ISK/unit refined.
and, maxed out 3,082.50 ISK, with lvl 5 refing, lvl 5 scordite refingin and 5.0 standing, making the ore worth 9.26 ISK/unit refined.
hope this helps.
