About a week ago or something, me and some other people were trying to catch a hostile dread passing through our space somewhere else.
We managed to kill the cyno maker, to prevent it jumping anywhere else - but then I was surprised that it just cloaked itself And just waited for a cyno field to be made again :(
This is wrong, dreads are very very powerful toys, they shouldnt be invulnerable, and the inablity to cloak can be explained simply - they are too big to cloak their energy emission :)
Like every ship, those should be vulnerable sometimes - and those times should be when moving a dread around. its simply not fair that the only way to kill dread is either be there when it jumps and target it or killed by POS.
Any thoughts?

I agree. Cloaking for ships of this size is just stupid imho. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Tell me, what is happiness? - Use of Weapons" Iain M. Banks

Yeah, seriously, I can slightly accept battleships cloaking, but dreadnaughts? Its ridiculous without a Capital Cloaking Field that completly nerfs scan res and tracking and explosion radius while it is equiped (doesn't have to be active), ad has a veyr long re-activaiton and lock-time delay. (you think something that can cloak a dread can just be turned on and off at your whim?).
Explination is easy- dreads are so damn big, just put another attribute on most the normal cloakers that indicates a maximum sig that it can cloak, and this number would ofcourse be way below what a dread (even with a full set of the sig reducing implants), can ever hope to achieve. _____________________________ NPC Asteroid Belt Bases Evil Is So Much Funner

Nor should they be able to hang out at stations and take poundings to thier shields and then just dock and undock again fully loaded. They should be able to dock like once every hour or six hours or something or shields not recharge when they dock or something. Dreads are so exploited at the moment.

What stopped you from flying right up to the dread and uncloaking it? Not like it can go anywhere fast.

maybe they had it STUCK in the system and were hunting for it. So the dread cloaked where none of them were, AKA they have no way of finding it

Tbh dreads being able to jump out even when scrambled and aggressed just takes the ****. I would rather they had more firepower but were more vulnerable. What is CCP's obsession with making bigger ships do crappy damage but be practically indestructable?
I don't think you trust, in, my, self-righteous suicide. |

I agree, this one is so simple. I had made the foolish mistake of cloaking a BS while in an unfriendly system. All the enemy did was fly a super fast inty at me and Boom, my cloak was made and I was cooked. |

Then they shouldn't undock. People should not be soloing in ******* *capital* ships (capital denoting fleet ships). And to be honest a squad of interceptors would probably run out of ammo before they could kill a dread (siege mode).

This wasnt simple at all, we killed the cyno maker as he jumped out to next system, by the time we jumped in to hunt for the dread it just cloaked.. And about dread jumping out after aggroing or docking and undock with full shields - wel thats wrong as well.. I hope they fix those things, all ships in game have weaknesses. time for dreads as well.

Props to the guy who was that smart of putting a cloak on that dread. ___________________________ By your command |

well, super fast inty was the solution (world record is 13km/sec, so you'll be able to close to the dread in less than 3 sec). then for the siege mode. You just need to wait he deactivate siege ^^. It's that easy, siege suck plenty of stronthium. Then guys do you think that a billion worth ship should be that easy to gank ?

Taking out all cynofields it can use to get a dreadnaught stuck in a system and hunting it down doesn't sound all that easy

Yeah, because taking out all the fields involves killing every single one of his gangmates and potential gangmates in a whater LY radius of that system.... _____________________________ NPC Asteroid Belt Bases Evil Is So Much Funner

Quote: <snip>...and the inablity to cloak can be explained simply - they are too big to cloak their energy emission :)
In this instance, I'd assume that the dread's mass isn't all dead weight - and that it has the capability to fit massive components that smaller vessels envy - things like capital cloaking devices or somesuch. In other words, I disagree with the premise that their size precludes them from cloaking.**
Quote: This is wrong, dreads are very very powerful toys, they shouldnt be invulnerable,
The ability to escape via cloaking isn't the same as being invulnerable. More to the point, Dreads are "very very powerful", and it should take significant effort to nail one down. For an example of the kind of effort required, I'm putting it into real-world terms, and thinking of the sinking of the Bismarck in WWII. I don't recall the details, but do recall being mighty surprised that it took such a long time, and a large task-specific fleet, to nail a single "Dreadnaught".
**Likewise, I dislike opinion expressed elsewhere in other topics that larger ships should be as easy (or easier) to jam or scramble.

Not to troll or anything, but the Bismark didn't have the option to be unseen by the enemy, to disapeer from the enemy's LOS then become invisible, to tank insane amounts of damage (it was only a ship ya know), or to jump 5 LY away instantly....
The only way to kill a dread is for it to have a nub pilot, get stuck on somehting (alot ofem actualy) (and doesn't jump out for some reason), to follow the dread around, constantly shooting it until it dies (and doesn't jump out for some reason), or to have a fleet so insanely massive that it can 1-volley a dread (and as we know, no such thing exists, and I'm sure the eve servers would cry and melt into scrap if such a fleet assembled in one system, even moreso if such a fleet targeted the same thing at the same time, and if they all shot at the same time- hello flood of logs, though I don't think it would ever be that synchronized)

The only reason that it was like this is because it was the first ever dreadnaught. Those fighting against it A) did not have any historical strategic models to use and B) did not have the weapons or armor necessary to destroy it quickly or defend against it for any length of time. Although it would now be considered a "small" ship, the size, the armor, and the weapons of the Bismarck were inconceivable before its time.
I think if any relation were to be drawn to the physical world, the dreadnaught should have an exponentially larger signature, high powered weapons, and thick armor. Perhaps through the use of multiple smaller escorts and its own modules it could mask its presence to an extent, but never fully cloak. There should be a better way to corral a Dreadnaught, however.

Complete rubbish ........ Have you ever flown a dread
So basically what "you" want is ............
A dreadnaught to come out of Hyperjump with 20% Cap, sit there for 5 mins while you Warp to the Cynofield, warp scramble it with a single Interceptor and then gang warp all your mates ... you make me laugh ....
Dread are easy enough allready to catch, learn the game and stop asking for a "Hac" pwns all button.
