Even companies that are using scrum or agile will put out hotfixes if necessary (and would be stupid not to). I don't know what these fixes were for, but if they interfered with anyone actually accessing the service, I can understand wanting to get that fixed asap. You can imagine though that making fixes in such a short time might make extensive regression testing difficult, so it wouldn't seem out of the ordinary for a new (hopefully smaller) but to be introduced by hotfixes. This should be expected after a patch that represents months of development time.
tldr, be glad something is being done, even if it doesn't affect you, because some day it will. |

It takes minutes for me to complete the whole process: Download the main patch. Then download the launcher patch (today it was one minute plus some for this download alone). Then install the patch files through the Windows updater before finally applying the patch in the EvE launcher. It takes way more than 15 seconds for me. I'll time it next time around (tomorrow, probably) and then post the results here. Please do the same so we can compare.

I've seen people in this thread claim the update process takes 15-30s which I find hard to believe: Today, the download of the launcher update alone took more than one minute for me. I didn't time the other parts of the update, though (I'll do that next time). But if a patch really is that fast, then I'll have to take a look at my setup. |

On a Linux box with a relatively slow 16k DSL it takes between 2-5 minutes to patch. So I start the launcher, go make coffee and when I come back I can play. I prefer this small time over having to wait for bug fixes anytime. I say tomato, you say tomaCCP BAN ALL TOMATOES THEY ARE HARASSING ME I WANT TOMATO FREE HIGHSEC. -- TheGunslinger42 |

My daily routine is to make coffee first. Then I turn on the computer, sit down, and expect to PLAY ! Maybe I should do as you do :-)

Damn you OP how dare you complain. CCP should change downtime so the servers are down for 23 hours and up for 1. That would make everyone happy, because apparently everyone LOVES waiting for maintenance to finish!

Thinking about it I got an idea: If they delayed patching for just one day, then they would be able to download (and possibly apply) the patch in the background without the user even noticing. Critical hot-fixes would be excluded of course, but I suspect most of the stuff fixed in the current patches are not in that category. WoW is using a similar approach when they're doing a (major) release |

Your critical error here is the reasoning that "WoW does it" without explaining what makes it better than how EVE does it. Don't know if you've noticed, but EVE isn't Wow, and CCP aren't Blizzard. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

So the entire playerbase should be denied access to a patch when it's ready just because you are unwilling to wait a couple minutes? That's really selfish. |

If 3% of your entire waking day is too much idle time for you, then once again, that's probably more of a personal problem than a practical one. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

It's better than the 3 hours that it would take, and the broken game in the meantime, if all the patches were clumped together and saved up for one day a week like they do in WOW. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Yeah I really enjoy the ****** launcher that is a POS. Something that wasnt needed and programers taken off other projects to make it and fix it every other week. good choice there ccp. glad my 60 bux a month isnt being wasted on ****** stuff that only breakes the game or makes it so i have to download a patch 5 times and then have to reinstall the game because that awesome patcher messed up.
then again, you are a member of the CSM, so keep up the white knighting for CCP. |

There was one expansion, can't recall the name of it but I had coined the patching song in regards to it. It something like this.
They patched the patch that patched the patch, to patch the patch that patched the patch.
In other words, we have it pretty easy as far as CCP keeping the number of patches they apply to their game code. |

Its not 30s. Its much longer, even on SSD system. I think we ALL love CCP for fixing bugs, bugs of fixed bugs etc but only critical bugs should be fixed in daily routine, all other should be put in weekly package.

You can once again unanchor POS modules through the Control Tower Management window. ===================
WTF? I know that this thing maybe important for some individuals but not for majority of pilots. Put it in package with other non critical changes and we are good.

Be glad they do fix things. Even if those should have not been broken in first place....
They use agile methods of development and unfortunately they forgot that QA should be included. So we the paying customer get pleasure of doing QA work and pay for it...
They really should form a team of developers that deliberately try to brake the game and new code before it gets released. If they do, coders gets to fix it before release. heck postpone release if needed. heck gamefy it, who ever wins that months bughunt/bugavoidance gets week all expenses payed vacation.
I do understand that EveOnline is large and complicated piece of software consisting mix of code from early days to current development cycles... But some of those bugs are so simple that they should have been cached in testing phase before release.
Or we just have bad coders. that dont know how to develop code that dosent brake something else with it.
PS. last release took me two updates. two downloads... Launcher hanged first time on applieing stage, so had to close launcher and do it again. had to do this on two laptops.... We are Minmatar, Our ship are made of scraps, but look what our scraps can do... |

No, I'm pretty sure that POS issues affect more than a minority of players, and even if they didn't, excluding their enjoyment of the game when it can be fixed in a few minutes or even seconds when we already know there is going to be a daily downtime that could last up to half an hour unless otherwise notified if longer, is not exactly fair on them, nor is it a huge problem for everyone else, unless you're an incredibly impatient person who does nothing but sleep, eat, and play EVE. And this particular patch did only take a few seconds, a few minutes at most. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

The small patches take like 20 seconds to install so what's the problem?
The only problem I can see is that because the launcher is still a piece of crap, I always start the game by directly calling the exe. So if there is a patch, I get that popup. I then click No, exit the client, start the launcher, use it to patch the client, then close it again and start the patched game with the exe again. Slightly annoying but still no big deal. . |

I don't understand why CCP have to patch every day. If there are some really critical errors that absolutely needs patching, then it is ok with an emergency patch, but I don't believe that is the reason. At least, if it is the reason, then CCP should take a good look at their quality assurance policies instead.
Leaving out the possibility of CCP creating a critical error every day, that leaves us with minor errors. But then please, please, please collect them into a weekly update. This daily routine is getting really annoying.
Why does it annoy you so much? These small patches take just like 10 seconds to run and require no effort, just click the launcher.

Please don't complain about patches! CCP could patch every day for the next year and I wouldn't care because it normally means things are being fixed.
I get annoyed where there are no patches! there have been times in the past where issues which were quite irritating took six to twelve months to fix. Doesn't matter the actual time, I think. I have crappy DSL that has toilette-bowl-water quality download speeds, and I still have no problem with patch frequency (I actually rather prefer frequent patching rather than waiting a couple weeks for any thing to happen). It's just a matter of OP not having any patience even for an obvious good thing. This sounds awfully familiar...oh, I got it. Sounds like a 2-year-old. Unless this is all some forum trolling, grow the **** up and stop bitching just because you have to wait a minute to play Eve because the Devs want to fix things that break sooner than later.
P.S. to the Devs...THANK YOU for fixing stuff. |
