What is the point of the upgrade? It is a .002% increase with a minor cpu usage reduction. Why would they make the upgrade such crap? |

People don't think about it, because the heat sink II is inexpensive and strictly better.
If the heat sink II wasn't so cheap, then people would use meta heat sinks more. |

hmm. I am a new pilot and couldn't see a reason as to why I skilled up for it. Quite a waste of time. Luckily I've worked a tracking enhancer into my ship so It is nice little boost. |

Look at the skill description again.
"Knowledge of gunnery computer systems, including the use of weapon upgrade modules. 5% reduction per skill level in the CPU needs of weapon turrets, launchers and smartbombs." |

Aw good to know. I lazily made this thread. I remembered it being cpu reduction requirement for the modules it gave you. Didn't bother to verify. Thank you though, now I feel better about it.

FYI: most optimal fits require advanced weapon upgrades III, some even V
The t2 heat sink bonus is multiplicative so the more sinks you fit, the more important it is to use t2. The consensus is that up to 3 heat sinks are useful with t2, to justify 4 you should at least partially go faction heat sinks.
Generally high end PVE fits employ 4 heat sinks, where at least 3 are faction. Pvp fits rarely use more than 2 heat sinks, most usually the t2 bang for the buck. |

There's a ton of meta 4 modules that are better than the meta 5 ones. |

With T2 heat sink: 1.1x damage With meta 4, 1.098x damage
1.1/1.098 * 100% = 100.182 %
It does 0.182% more damage, not 0.002% as you state
If you look at the damage *increase*, 10% vs 9.8% -> 2% more damage increase.
And on some fits, using 4 less CPU is important note that 34/30 = 1.1333
The meta 4 uses 13.3% more CPU, and increases DPS 2% less than the Tech 2....
So... I'd say its fine - there's other meta 4 vs t2 cases that are much worse than this - where the meta 4 is just plain better in every way At least in this case, the T2 is better in every case, even if its not by that much. |

heat sink II has less fitting requirements than it's meta 4 variant |

That is weird...
Of course it doesn't matter to most pilots because weapon upgrades 4 is pretty much one of the first things you train for because of the CPU bonus. I guess if there was a low CPU meta 4 version it would be nice for tight fits. |
