Edited by: Dajjal on 22/08/2003 11:58:10 i is forum n00b so if this isnt the right place for all i have to say accept my apologies...
i have raided a few convoys in my eve-time and it occured to me that the NPCs existence in eve are static. a convoy comes out of a station travels 150 or so km then just disappears (supposedly warped i guess...).
however - is it not possible to make NPCs actually travel the lengths and breadths of Eve?
this opens the opportunity for escort missions - make sure 50% (say) of the ships get from "system A station A" to "system B station B" - or the possibility of convoy raiding where the player needs to check the convoy route and plan attacks at station or jump gates. It is then feasible that 1 player will need to protect a convoy while another is preparing to raid it. Have gate-rats attack NPC convoys on sight and perhaps even stalk and harass the convoy on its journey (much like the navy and police do with low SR players)
this gives the added benefit of a living, breathing 'world' (galaxy?) outwith the need to populate systems with numbers of players
bigger convoys need corp involvement - especially if involving 0.0 space and, as convoys generally drop large quantities of items, the co-ordination of attacking/defending ships and haulers
routes can be dynamic to prevent player pirates camping known routes
this would also give players who normally mine or trade a taste of pirating and meaningful combat (going to WP x and shooting a drone isnt particularly taxing combat...)
just an idea or 2 :-/

This is a great idea. I'd love to see missions like this and this would add a lot to the game. I hope this is possable and that this will be implemented.

Along similar lines... since quite a few people hunt those NPC convoys for the loot, some missions could take that into account -- say, the agent provides the player with a 'hunting permit' so they're free to attack the identified convoy raider anywhere for a couple of days, and instructs them to 'teach the scumm a lesson in the name of the company'... :s (mission being accomplished with destruction of the target's ship or with podding...)

Bigger corps get to do this sort of thing (escorts etc) whenever they need to run valuable items from A to B. here they run some1 on point to check route is clear and have the indy backed up with cruisers etc.
But, those in smaller corps or 1 or 2 man outfits dont really ever get the chance for this kind of Eve involvement
it would also let those new and still getting to grips with frigates the chance to get involved in 'proper' combat situations - low risk 0.8 convoys with low(ish) returns and 1k and 2k npc pirates for those who like the protection of concord (for those in cruisers and battleships - 5 ship convoys deep into the heart of 0.0. bigger risks bigger returns) _______________________

Sounds good, and probably implementable.
I'll put it on my TODO list, so expect this in eventually, although I can't give any promises about when.

would be most cool... Your 150mm Railgun II perfectly strikes Serpentis Drug Baron, wrecking for 192.8 damage. |
