Ok, first off, here's my specs :
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Processor
1 GB Ram
Radeon X800 video card (AGP 8x)
Windows Pro x64
now, here's the problem:
Whenever I try to log on to Eve, my computer crashes. It seems to be at a totally random time. Sometimes I get all the way to the login screen, other times it locks up before I can finish typing in my password. It allways does one of two things :
A)Windows locks up TOTALLY and I'm forced to do a hard reset.
B)My computer locks up and the video gets cut off(black screen).
I've looked everywhere on the forums, and I can't find anyone with this problem, and I tried all the fixes I could find for anything remotely similar. What do I do?

What motherboard are you using? Specifically, what chipset? I know there's been tallk on the forum about EVE not working with nForce2 chipsets. I know it's an AMD 3700, but is it a socket 754 or socket 939? Might be a chipset issue and not a Win x64 issue.

Doesn't mention WinXP 64. I think you are on an unsupported system. Try XP 32... Winxp 64 isn't ready for prime time. It could be buggy video drivers or any number of things.

Nforce 2 chipsets work 100% with EVE. Have an Asus pushing a second account on an Nforce 2 400. That is not 64bit anyhoo...
Some video cards have extra low level options turned on by default... such as sidebanding or fastwrite. Try turning these things on or off at the driver level and/or bios level. Also check to see if your memory timings are no too tight. AMD64 have memory controllers built in the cpu... timings or incompatible ram could show their turtle heads in games or large memory addressing apps.
Also, what is your luck with XP 32bit? What drivers for the X800 have you tried? etc... these are the things we need to know.

ok, my motherboard is a MSI K8MM-V.
I'm running with the newest Catalyst drivers for my card for x64.
Also, I don't seem to have any problems in any other games. I can play WoW, Warcraft III, Civ IV, etc. etc. Eve is the only game thats given me any grief.

exactly the same problem on my laptop, think its an ati issue as its almost related to the black screen topic just below this one, I have ati x700, only happened after the latest patch

Is there any JAVA apps running? Such as BitTorrent clients that might be minimized to the tray?

I don't have anything running in the background, no.
Also, I've had this problem since I started playing(When Red Moon Rising came out) so its not an issue with the new patch.

You are using an unsupported operating system of course you are going to have issues. Just because some games run that doesn't mean every game will.

Yeah i have WinXP x64...
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
1.5GB DDR400 RAM
nVidia 6600GT Graphics Card (PCI-E)
MSI KN8 Neo4 (Nforce4) Motherboard
No lockups, no graphical issues... Smoooth sailing.

I have AMD 64 3000, 1GB RAM, Gigabyte Mobo, XP64, nVidia GF4 Ti4200 with XP64 and I dont have any lockup problems
I suspect its your graphics card drivers (I have never liked ATI cards/drivers personally)

allright, I tried the fix on the above-mentioned post, and it sorta helped. Immediately after replacing that file, I can get to the character select screen, but once I try to do anything from there, I get the black screen again.
I refuse to accept that this is the fault of windows x64. There are enough people on this forum using it(and enough using it in conjunction with an ATI card)for that not to be the case.

All the people who tell you its x64 are NOT running x64. Eve works just fine in x64 as its fundamentally the same as the 32 bit version.
There is only one real difference and that is the drivers. My bet is that yoiu are having a driver issue based on your particular hardware setup OR that you have a hardware fault somewhere.
1) Before you do anything else go download and burn Memtest. Don't even think of doing anything else first. Run it for at LEAST 24 hours. If you get any errors what so ever you need to replace your ram. We build dozens of 64 bit boxes here (although we run a UN*X variant) and 95% of the problems can be traced back to ram.
2) If the ram is failing VERIFY that your board is getting enough power. Switch power supplies to a good ANTEC, PC Powe and cooling, or another well known brand. Don't skimp. The PS is one of the most important parts in your rig. 25% of the ram problesm have nothing to do wtih the ram itself but the power.
3) If you ahve verified that the ram is working 100% correctly then you most likely are having a driver issue. Unfortunately for you ATI's 64 bit drivers suck rocks. The NVidia 64 bit drivers are solid, but ATI's are a bit flakey. Some people are reporting problems with different mixes of hardware. If you can get ahold of a Nvida card and their drivers and test it (borrow one from a friend, pull one out of another computer). If the problem goes away and runs fine then you know you have a driver problem with ati's hardware. You can investigate further by googling ect. If it doesnt go away with tehnvidia card then:
4) Only thing left is mboard/cpu problem. Cpu is very rarely the problem UNLESS its acooling problem. KLeep the sides off the case make sure fans are all spinning. Motherboard may be an issue but at this point, well, its hard to tell. The Nvida nforce 3/4 chipsets are solid and known to work fine with win 64. might want to give one of those a try.
Unfortunately We have the luxury here of having a ton of hardware on the shelf to swap out and try. At home its a bit harder if you dont have alot of spare hardware.

Try this I can almost guarantee it will work. Bump the AGP acceleration down to 4x and let me know what happens :) Because I have a similar problem And this is the only thing that will work.

Ok, here are my results from trying different stuff :
1. I ran memtest, and recieved no errors.
2. Tried taking the side off my case as suggested, to no avail.
Still nothing.
I was trying to change my AGP from 4x to 8x, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I found the option in my bios menu, but its greyed out and I can't change it. Anyone know how I might do that?

That those other games work says to me that is proably your sound card drivers. Eve is the only game I've ever seen without a software fall back for sound. And the only one I've ever see use hardware by defualt.. well it has no other option.
x64 sound drivers.. sigh so so many are broken. I've had tons of these problems my self.

Since you don't seem to beable to get into the game.
Add:
audio=0
to your prefs.ini in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\cache or where ever you put the game :)
preffs.ini will open in notpad if you double click it. If the game works, well you've found your problem. If it doesnt... well let us know.
PS with jacked up sound dirvers turning down the acceleration in dxdiag is almost always worthless.

You've found the right place, but it being greyed out is curious. Try toggling the aother AGP settings on the same page (dont save them though!!!) to see if any of them unlocks the AGP speed setting.
Failing that you might have to update your motherboard BIOS version (should be available on the motherboard manufacturers web site) to get access to this - I just updated a friends BIOS because he didnt have the speed setting at all!
BIOS upgrades are not for the faint of heart - be sure you know exactly what you are doing before you start!!!

ATI + AMD + nFORCE = DOOM
Im not sure but i have problems booting up this game i get frequent crashes. Now when i think about it i had the exact type of crashes when i was playing DoW before the ypatched it. I think it got something to do with CPU and the setup you have.
Anyway all you can do is pray that CCP checks it out. Your not the first to get blackscreens freezes and reboots. ME personally cant play the game anymore. Im hoping for CCP to reset my account and maybe give me 14 days trial back so i can REALLY try the game out. As it is now i stopped trying... just letting the days tick away. I can't play anyway so whats the use.
And yeah i tried everything every bloody thing on the help. EVEN went as far s installing eve again, fastwrite off, sound off, 4xagp, extracted new char and replaced the old. Installed new drivers, installed .NET 2.0 beta to no avail.
So CCP better do something cos i think im not the only one who wished t otest eve out, im just not getting that chance :(

Ati has awful X64 drivers, do back to 32bit xp and youll run fine.
